Worth being enlisted just to get a spiffy Swiss Army penknife.. To guard all that looted Nazi treasure.

Parade ground drills would be a hoot, eh?

This congress member, a vet, apparently isn't interested in providing services to vets.

I'm not complaining about the place. I did get to watch Tora Tora Tora, the wackiest ship in the Army, McHale's Navy, The one where the German guy keeps yelling at Shultz his subordinate ( sory forgot the name), MASH, Gomer Pyle MC. Yea, they fed us the freedom fries alright but I loved every minute of it. Never served in the military though, my brother was on the USS Enterprise, Father lost a toe in Korea, uncle came back from Vietnam a scar all the way down the side of his face that made me scared when I saw him. Big man, was a Marine in the shit.

I worked with a guy, now retired that was a tunnel rat, a few Chiefs and a Master Chief, all retired now. Good for them, double pensions and free health care for life. Bought a Browning A-Bolt stainless steel stalker 7 mm Magnum brand new from a guy I worked with that was highly-decorated for surviving some major battle in Vietnam that I forgot the details of.

He bought his girlfriend some expensive fancy watch, she bought him the rifle then they broke up. I wanted the Browning A5 at the time but this thing is really accurate. It's my deer rifle of choice now. I don't even touch Chinese SKS anymore. Why would I, the Browning is spot-on over a hundred yards

I wouldn't talk smack about any of them in fact I got pistol envey when It comes to their big fat pensions. Do twenty years and then get a damn good job after just to pad the back pockets while paying off the house up north and all the toys ect.

    go fish.

Yup that explains those long lines of soldier wannabes extending ‘round the block at the recruiters office.

Forget to add that in addition to free healthcare you get, at no charge to you, all the free prosthetics, wheelchairs and crutches you need plus room ‘n board at a VA Hospital, facility or old soldiers home. Not to mention the free psychotropic drugs, straightjackets and rubber room provided for the shell shocked. Benefits beyond compare.

    From wikipedia:

Master chief petty officers are addressed as "Master Chief (last name)" in the colloquial and they constitute the top 1.25% of the enlisted members of the maritime forces.

Top Grade - yup, they deserve the pay and pension

A whole lotta dues you'll pay to reach MCPO

Yea, sad I see. Hell I'd have been there last week If I had landed wrong. I don't expect a "hope you get better soon" from any of you mothers. That's just the way I read this crowd. No need to ask the reasons why.

That $4500 figure is pretty close to what a retired CDR/0-5 would get for 20 years and a MCPO/E-9 with around 27/28 years pulls in.

And on top of that they could be potentially getting another $800 - $3500 a month tax free from the VA depending whatever disability rating they get.

Not bad money combined and more icing on the cake coming when they turn 62 and that social security check for another $1000 - $1500 a month comes. That figure can go up by several hundred a month by delaying SS. Something like an additional 8% per year is the figure I seem to recall.

Mist soldiers I know joined as they couldn't think of anything else to do or were on the run from something.

To those who went to Iraq, I'll say nothing, as my gran taught me when I have nothing nice to say.
