The heart does not need to be worn on the sleeve, but thanks anyway.

Jaw jaw, is better than war war, even if sometimes, sabre rattling is wearysome.

But they have a choice how and for who to serve, haven't they? Or were they forced to serve?
Aren't there many other choices how to serve?

Clearly referring to 9/11 so do you want to tell me how many Iraqis or Afghans started killing poor white people in the US? Hint: none.

All the same for the ones who had "served" for past many thousands years...

If there would not be the ones who serve, the world history could be different, couldn't be? (imagine the leaders fighting each other in a Colosseum...)

Bowie, you have changed my quote, that's not what I said. And that's not fair.

And you have twisted demagogically the discussion...

In fact, if Hitler did not have the ones who served him, there would not be any war...

A shout out to the men, women, children and infants of My Lai.

The Mỹ Lai Massacre was the Vietnam War mass murder of unarmed South Vietnamese civilians by U.S. troops in Sơn Tịnh District, South Vietnam, on 16 March 1968. Between 347 and 504 unarmed people were killed by U.S. Army soldiers from Company C, 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 11th Brigade, 23rd (Americal) Infantry Division. Victims included men, women, children, and infants. Some of the women were gang-raped and their bodies mutilated as were children as young as 12. Twenty-six soldiers were charged with criminal offenses, but only Lieutenant William Calley Jr., a platoon leader in C Company, was convicted. Found guilty of killing 22 villagers, he was originally given a life sentence, but served only three and a half years under house arrest.

Yes, klondyke the premise was/is changed in my FTFY post.

Yet, everybody gets the premise you are making. The premise is aged - "Utopia" doesn't exist in the real world.

Actually, talking about a twisted thread – This thread is my personal thanks to the folk who sacrificed for my freedom.

Lots of farked idiot anti-everything trolls that have crawled out from under their rocks to espouse their objections to my professing thanks that is/are richly deserved by the recipient Veterans. Funny, their opinions just don’t matter at all. Except maybe to get a back-slap, “job well down fellow farktard”, from the other anti-everything muppets.

Think any of the trolls ever served?

Perhaps its naught more than jealousy.

There's no need to thank the military for anything. They are just doing a job. And likewise, there's no need to blame the military (for the most part) because, usually, they are doing what they are told by governments. Governments and politicians are to blame for starting wars, for approving military action, military agression and for threats, sabre rattling and hostile actions. One of the biggest causes of agression is the claim to defend so-called "interests". It is used far too loosely and frequently, IMO. Often it really just means they want to do what they want, where they want.

This thread is posted in ‘Speakers Corner’, poor forum choice if you only wanted support for your jingoistic dribble and broach no dissent or alternative opinions.

Don’t believe in freedom of speech, comrade? Maybe try a blog? You can silence all dissent and have your own little echo-chamber then.

as far as the US military is concerned....

WWI and WWII....many of them probably did deserve thanks.....but most of them are long dead.
korea and vietnam....feel sorry for them, because they got used and abused. thanks? nope. they didn't do shit for me, and they helped to ruin the lives of countless others.
anything after that....it's a job. they chose it. they don't deserve any special thanks other than the paycheck and benefits they receive from the government tit.

carry on with your "personal" thread bowie.

Sorry, Nev/Ray, granted there are a few "GI Joe" "soldier-of-fortune" wannabes, but, for the most part (remember USA military is all volunteer), working 24/7 where one mistake, yours or someone elses can cost you your life. Our servicemen do not take this lightly, it certainly ain't "just a job".

Military life is subpar working and living conditions - I was bunked in conditions a welfare recipient could refuse. My pay was "poor" @ half of what the civilians would get, I would ship out for months at a time without any contact with my family and/or the civilian world, and I was single. Imagine a married deployed to a combat zone with absolutely no contact with their loved ones. Imagine the burden placed on your loved ones, not knowing if your wife or husband is still alive and/or under hostile fire at this very moment.

No, the living conditions, the risks and minimum rewards are Not What They Want. It takes a much more solid commitment to serve.

The mind numbing and subconscious conditioning of romancing and championing militarism and war if fetid.
