Happy 4th of July - have a free Shotgun, Bible and USA Flag - just buy a Ford from us

A Southern Alabama Ford dealership is raising some eyebrows with its latest promotion in honor of Independence Day.
They are giving away a shotgun, a bible and an American flag with every new and used car purchase.

“It’s grown a lot more than we anticipated,” said Coby Palmer from Chatom Ford.

^ David – ‘tis all different in Thailand. We (USA) do have a rather large yet discrete military presence here. SE Asia’s very strategic location coupled with the Philippines. Lots of war brides from Thailand and the Philippines.

I do not “celebrate” the US Holiday, Independence Day aka The Fourth of July, in Thailand. Nor does my VFW Post. The US Embassy and Consulate probably hold a celebratory event. Too far for me to travel.

In the USA I, my VFW Post and Cooties Pup Tent celebrated “The Fourth of July” at our local State run Veterans Homes (Old Soldiers Home), and with the local VA Hospital. We had two State Run Facilities and one VA Hospital in our travel area.

So, we would bring food, gifts and entertainment to our hospitalized Veterans. Had it set up so the local VFW Posts, coordinated by my Cooties Pup Tent, would take care of our hospitalized Vets. The Fourth was one day, also had Christmas, New Years, Memorial Day, Veterans Day events and a bunch of none Holiday visits (movies, fishing trips, bingo, bands, DJ’s, etc.)

Just Charity work for deserved folk.

Can I chose between free floor mats or a gun rack for my free shotgun?

In reality a pair of matched fitted shotguns will maybe cost more than a car or truck.

Shame I hadn't seen this before I got a new Ford work van two weeks ago. I always wanted a shotgun.

    David: Pictures are a PIA.

Some pix from a July 4 Celebration about a decade ago at an Old Soldiers Home - these are, for the most part, shut-ins.
Volunteers bring the food from the serving line to the Vets.

What's your definition of "rather large"?

Sadly most US holidays have become nothing more then a marketing holiday.

That said, Happy 4th to us Mercans. Enjoy the fireworks. I remember big block parties, neighbors all BBQd in the street. Kids lit off fire works while the parents got plowed. Every year there were a few fingers blown off but that was all good and fun. It was like a permanent Darwin marking..

Btw the shotgun looks like a Mossberg 12 ga. Pump. Take the plug out and you can put 5 in the tube and one in the chamber.

    ^^^ great pics there Bowie.

^ JPPR2 ... do they still allow the public to have fireworks.

In Australia, apart from the Northern Territory, they are banned.

Nope. Banned virtually everywhere. People still find illegal ones and light them off and people immediately call the police.

I'd like to see a tomcat goes to Alabama travel thread.
