Thread: A thrilling pants question

So, what are the best pants for hot and humid weather climates?

Are there any jeans that are reasonably comfortable, or I'm just stuck with linens and light cottons?

I've looked online and of course every retailer will tell you they have the most comfortable hot weather pants, but I'd rather get feedback from folks who actually live in the hot places.

I have always worn Levi's when not wearing shorts.

Best for me are baggy, but smart, cotton chino's. No dark colour during the day. I like to have a crease sewn it being as Thais don't seem to know how to iron trousers. Well the ones I know don't.

Forget jeans....the material is too thick and you get sweaty. Anything cotton or linen is best. Synthetics are ok if they are the soft, light and breathable type. I prefer something that hugs my bum as if the waist is large with a drawstring, that part is the only part holding it up, so it bunches up there. So ....snug(ish) fit around waist / bum, but very loose in the crotch and legs

Commando, with cargo shorts.

Comfortable.
Cool.
The height of fashion and style.
Easy access when with a chick.

Are we talking about pants (UK) or pants (USA)?

Denim pants (UK) sounds a little rough, but I'm willing to give it a try for research purposes only of course.

IMHO, ones comfort in clothing will depend a lot on the individual. If you are a type that does not sweat a lot almost anything is OK. If you are a sweat monster then stay away from SE Asia as there isn't any style clothing you will feel comfortable in walking around.

I wear Levi's and various style shirts and no problem even on the hottest of days but I do not sweat much. I actually feel cooler in Levi's then I do in shorts when out and about.

While doing some garden work around the house in my shorts, I came to the conclusion that thin cotton suits me best:
-thick cotton shorts are heavier, hence more weight to carry.
-if thick cotton shorts are wet from (sweat or irrigation) they take longer drying time
-both thick and thin cotton shorts have the problem, when wet, to stick to the knees/legs while kneeling, so i roll up them up to above the knees while working.

Denim is far too heavy and clingy.

The Burmese longyi is fit for purpose as far as Southeast Asia climate goes, but the lack of proper pockets are a drawback. The longyi, like the Arabic thobe does, inhibit running.

Anyways, take your cues from what the locals wear.

I find a pair of loose linen troosers hard to beat on the rare occasions I venture into town in the day time, although will wear jeans if not too much walking between bars is anticipated.

If you're talking UK pants, I recently discovered 'Sports Ice Silk Moisture Wicking Free Underwear Compression Mesh Breathable Boxers Briefs for Men' on Lazada and find them to be superb. In the really hot sweaty weather I used to be prone to rashes from chafing in the upper leg / balls adjacent area but now I am rash free.

For the office, I usually wear lightweight cotton chinos or trousers. I usually stock up at Marks & Sparks in the UK. A pleated front trouser type allows air to circulate around one's bollock region, ensuring day-long comfort even if having to occasionally leave the office aircon environment. Getting the help to put a decent crease back into them after washing may prove to be a difficult task, but stick to the plan.


Don't ever get the "slim fit" or "skinny" trouser type that seems to be fashionable in the UK with bearded hipster wanker types, as you will soon get 'jock-rot' and other enduring skin problems.

I think what the OP should have mentioned was his intentions and activities here. I mean for us Office guys we are in the AC all day and drive home in an AC'd vehicle so we can wear what ever we want. But if out walking, hiking, yard work etc. then answers will vary based on the individual

Some advice... I'm carrying a bit of extra weight at about 36" waist and would usually be L or XL in boxers. On Lazada they call it 'international size' but I had to go 5XL for these. Makes me sound like a right fat bastard but I'm not really.
