Most people are respectable, reasonable, mentally and emotionally balanced, and represent the middle ground that keep the peace by tolerating departure and deviants on both sides.
Some will leap to defend the ridiculous, for the sake of argument to demonstrate their smarts, or because anything outside of their comfort zone represents a mortal threat, or sometimes scary as it sounds because they actually support the absurd and the more absurd the better and the more you disagree the more absurd you appear to them. These are the nutty allsorts, aka the PC brigade, the sjw, the minions which exist for others to point at and larf.
All good fun, and let's kick off with the university lecturer that was reported to police for a 'hate crime', after posting on Instagram one line from a movie; “Spent this morning telling a group of visiting American students that we don’t really hate the English, but that they are wankers. Welcome to Scotland.” - Trainspotting
Police confirmed that officers were called in to investigate the post after a complaint...thankfully, it was later reported: “A full investigation was conducted and it was established that no crime had been committed. However, the matter was recorded as a hate incident. No further police action was required.”

Is this a victory for common sense, or abject defeat of common sense by simple virtue that the police were at all involved?
How slim is the margin between a 'full investigation' that clears the alleged offender, and with precisely the same variables one that destroys their career and life?
Should those who reported the incident be admired for stepping up to nurture their environment toward perfection, or subject to action for wasting police time and oxygen, or given counselling?
