Tex, sometimes you say something humourous. Sometimes you say something halfway intelligent and I think there is more to Tex. Then there are the times you say something as dumb as dog shite. Telling the English, English is not their language rates up there with the dumber things you say. Anyway in a few years it wont matter to you as the main language in the U.S will be a derivative of spanish. In some areas it already is.

'Englishes', yes indeed, just the sort of 'word' one would hear as background noise while thinking 'How early can we reasonably hit the bar' earlier in the century.

Thank god English is the worlds mother tongue. Imagine if all these English inbreds you see hanging around bars in Pattaya had to learn another language. That would be educationally impossible. They would have nobody to communicate with but each other.

Back in the early sixties I remember a scottish migrant family moved in next door to us. My mother doing the neighbourly thing took the woman to the local shops. She had taken her to the hairdresser and introduced the woman to her friend. Her friend said, "Its quite amazing that you can already speak some English".

English unashamedly takes words from other languages that is why it constantly evolves and stays relevant and that is its' strength. When I was a boy we heard about tidal waves. Now they are always called Tsunamis. Languages evolve or lose relevance. Most people would struggle with Chaucer and some even Shakespeare. In 200 years people may need linguists to interpret some of todays English, however it will still be English.
I believe the french have an institute to try to keep the "purity" of french, a canute like gesture that will not work.

He might well be one of the decrepit old men that you speak of, but he’s also absolutely correct regarding the adaptation, and future of the English language.

Interesting that, in the developing Asian world, where no direct translation exists for contemporary usage, the locals simply adopt the existing English word.

Language has always evolved and it will continue to do so.

It doesn't need mouthbreathing Brexit/Trump types to tell it to the rest of us.
