How to spend $5M a day for 40 years.

In the Bezos thread, Headworx said it's doable (perhaps cynically or sarcastically).
    Here's a thread to propose what you would do. This is an excersise in the theory, so lets set some parameters;
    1. Just for the excersise, I know lots of you would be generously giving to charity and friends, but lets just rule that out. This is to be how you would spend the dosh on yourslef.
    2. As per 1., it's on yourself, so no throwing it out the window or burning it.
    3. Lets assume we don't want to be ridiculed and despised for having ten Lear Jets that we never use. Two is enough. Same for a couple of outrageously outfitted Boeings. Perhaps a superyacth in sitting at your ten most favourite destinations. The point is you can't (for the excersise) just keep buying ships/planes/islands and not using them.
    4. Lets limit it to 3 paradise islands: Pacific, Carribean, and anywhere else, maybe you'd like a pristine, cold island off Canada or Alaska.
    5. No money-making ventures. No business. This is spending on yourself only.
    6. The premise is based on $70B in the bank and earning 2%. You are going to die in 40 years time and have no heirs. You can dig into the cash, live off the interest, or a combination.

WFT would you do with the cash @ $5M per day or $70B on hand?

I think you'd have difficulty spending it. Some weeks, months even, it'd go like beer down your throat, but to keep up that rate of spending for 40 years would be a full-time job and sort of goes against the spirit of having such riches.

    OK, me:
I'd get my 3 islands. Total around 150 mill. I think only one 787 jet is required, and a Lear hangared up to reach each of my islands. A superyacht moored at each island, with full time skipper, deck hand, and house staff. A superyacth in Monaco for Med cruising, and one in Australia, NZ, and Singapore.
Luxurious properties in BKK, SIN, SYD, AKL, and Florida. A mansion in a forest in Finland, maybe.
    Personal asistants.
A personal chef who travels with me.
A few security guys. Make that 5.

A live-in house staff in each property.

That's about 35-40 full-time staff. Paid well, staff bill would be only $40,000 per day. Chicken feed.
And assets above would be circa 2B. Lets splurge and say $10B in assets.

There's still $60B in the bank. What to do?

The launch pad for this excersise was Bezos, so US$.

And lets say your tastes are less modest than mine and you started out with assets (yacths, properties, planes, cars) that cost $35B. That's $2.5M to spend each day for the next 40 years.
    Hard to do.

No throwing away of money. Nor sinking into money-making ventures.

    First, select a small country.

Second, move there and naturalize as a citizen.

Third, many Western countries will hand out green cards (or equivalent) and even citizenship to anyone with enough money - e.g. the EB-5 visa in the US gets one visa for a million dollars. Buy green cards for the entire citizen population of the country you're buying. Bribe them all to leave, and buy all the land in the country.

When they all move to the US as millionaires, wait for them to naturalise as citizens and get them to give up their citizenship.

You are now the sole citizen of the country: amend the constitution to make yourself dictator for life and then start letting immigrants in.

The smallest such country is probably Tuvalu, with a population of 12,000. At a million dollars per citizen, that's $12bn to move everyone out.

The costs of additional bribes for a few that don't want to leave, and buying all the land will probably double that.

Say $25bn and ten years to purchase Tuvalu.

That puts a dent in the coin and now we look at islands and toys.

Interesting, not least because I'm (was...rusty now) fluent in Tuvaluan (a most useless talent, but it is what it is).
So, you have a group of 8 islands/atolls, in the middle of nowhere. Party archipelago?

I recall this sort of scenario was presented in a movie or book decades ago. $xxxx dollars to spend in a certain amount of time but no assets to be bought and no gifts or throwing the dosh away, if fail, you lose it all. The protagonist ran for US president.

Those that refuse get the ultimate offer.

But seriously the money Bezos has lacks meaning. it's nothing but a commodity to him. He's among the few that will shape the future for the entire world

Would there be seppo's on your island? I thought all the inhabitants took a hike after getting a free pass to another country with massive cash in their pockets.

Regardless, as master of your empire, all you need do is declare a "National Emergency" for anything a petty as a stinking wall.

Brewster's millions is probably what you're thinking about. 30 million in 30 days. 1985. An enjoyable movie to watch.

^That's it. And it serves to show just how hard it is to spend big money... an underlying premise of the thread.

    Be like Bill.

Set up a foundation to use business & tech to improve the lives of people around the world.

    Be like Elon.

Build business to push the boundaries of tech to make cleaner cars available to the masses and extend our reach into space.

Only then can you retreat your private island where cocktail hour starts at 09:00 and all drinks are served with caviar side dishes by half-naked nubile young ladies.
Some people think it don't, but it be.
