Fascinating. Australian of the year is not our very own Looper, it's not the ever helpful Baldrick and it's not even our wonderful (before 7pm) David48. So who is it? It's a horse. A bloody horse. A horse called Winx.

What on earth is wrong with Australia or Australians when a horse is considered better than over 24 million people?

And consider, too, that out of all the deadly creatures, snakes, spiders, sharks and such, horses are responsible for most death-by-animal incidents in Oz.

But I hoped Rowena Orr who was the lawyer for the Govt in the banking royal commission and she did a brilliant job
nailing the scum involved in banking and superannuation industry.

Funny fact. My ex wife was related to Dianne Fromholtz. As a matter of fact, she has the same last name and refused to change it to my Serbian name when we got married.

Who are they then? It’s already mid afternoon in the semi civilized half of Oz.

The two Australian divers who gripped the public imagination for their part in the dramatic rescue of a Thai boys soccer team have shared the Australian of the Year award.


Dr Richard Harris, an anaesthetist from Adelaide and Dr Craig Challen, a retired vet from Perth, long-time diving companions, worked as part of the international team that, against the odds, brought the 12 boys and their coach to safety.

In the category of Local Hero, the ceremony recognised Kat and Tick Everett, two parents who founded the Dolly's Dream charity after their daughter took her own life as a result of bullying.

The Senior Australian of the Year award went to paediatrician Dr Sue Packer for her work in child abuse prevention.

As Young Australian of the Year, the ceremony recognised 22-year old indigenous rapper Danzal Baker, describing him as "an inspiration to indigenous youth."

He was praised for "using his talent to inspire young people in remote indigenous communities and encourage them to embrace their culture and embrace opportunities to lead their communities".

‘We love you’: Thai cave survivors deliver special message for Australians of the Year



Shortly after receiving their awards at the ceremony, Challen and Harris were surprised with a special message from the boys they helped save.

“We have a little surprise,” the men were told. “We want to share with you a very special message from some people that your work has profoundly affected.”

The men, who were stood on stage, were surprised when a video of the boys they saved appeared on the screen behind them.

Dressed in their soccer jerseys, the team thanked Challen and Harris for saving their lives.

“Good evening. Thank you very much Dr Richard Harris and Craig Challen,” the boys said. “We love you. All the best.”
