This poster is a bit naive then. There are many legal way for him to hedge his investment or exit his position without having to pay tax. Tax is for the poor people. Also, if she did get half the shares, it would remain in shares. There is no way at all they would let her have the shares and be able to dump them / cash out.

The other share holders of Amazon stock. $70 billion of stock hitting the market or even the inkling of that happening would see the price plummet. Perhaps they they would wait until it hits rock bottom, buy buy buy, and then say "ahh we're staying together" and make a killing?

Bezos would not allow it and it would be contracted in the settlement - no selling stock above X amount on a yearly basis without permission, and bezos given first refusal.

Get negative interest loans against it, settled when the stock prices increases. Amazon do not do dividends, so its all about cashing in small amounts when the prices rises maintaining growth in holding. The amount she could sell would be capped though. It is highly over priced already - if they paid dividends the price would drop considerably.

He's probably much better off than some broke ass Brit who came to Thailand under some grand illusion that Thai women are nice and submissive. Like a good gentlemanly Brit, he builds a house for brothers and parents and gets kicked out when payments stop. After whining a bit on Bangkok expats and Thai Visa he realises he would have been better off staying in UK where he would at least get half.
