BTW, your daughter and Luigi's could be twins (look-a-likes).

Those pics bring back some memories. Think I had those exact ones.


Was just talking about my old Lego boxes being in my nieces house with my mother on Christmas day, and that they must be worth their weight in gold if going by today's prices.


Santa gave the kid the 1 meter tall Saturn V rocket for Christmas.

The first stage is almost complete and It's all going well now that she's not allowed into the same room as it.

It was interesting to see the release dates of the kits we have. Most around 1989 which would have made me 6 at the time but I doubt we got them on new release. It's getting easier to build what we have now that I've separated the colours. Might be able to sneek in a couple of smaller builds tomorrow but doubt I'll have the chance to start the pirate ships. Which probably isn't a bad thing as I think my parents are intent on selling it after they googled the price.

I am not that much older than youse (well OK a bit) and there was no such thing as a lego 'kit' when I was a snapper.

There was lego blocks (which were all red except for a few blue and grey bits) and there was your imagination.

I came second in a lego competition when I was 10 (I did a scene of a car crash). The winner was the 9 year-old grandson of the judge (who was also my piano teacher) so I think there may have been a touch of nepotism going down in that deal but it is all water under the bridge now and I rarely give it a second thought these days.

Imagination is the key to inventiveness and ingenuity and is disappearing from life these days.

It is like porno. In my day you had an old sock and your imagination. These days young fellas are spoon fed 1080p depictions of sexual acts that were far beyond the wildest imagination of a young lad in the 1980s.

I think a return to traditional values when it comes to lego and monkey-throttling could help to put the backbone back into our young men.

I bought this for my stepdaughter and her boyfriend (both mid twenties) for xmas.

In my day it was Erector Sets, Lincoln Logs and TinkerToys. No Legos. All the cool kids had an electric motor with their Erector set. I wasn't one of them.

Wish I still had the original box's and instructions for the massive mixed box full we've got.

Visited the lego shop near us before Xmas and there was a superzised Millennium Falcon on sale for...... £649!!

Fact. Lego sets are better investment than stocks, short term or long term. If I was back in Canada I'd be reselling them full time.

I’m old enough to remember meccano. The set handed down to me by my older brother, proved my ditsinclination towards practical engineering skills at a basic level.

Now that you mention it, think mine was a hand-me-down as well...with no motor at all.

...the Alamo (with added soldiers from a Civil War set) is the only one I remember...

Finished the Saturn V.

Being transported to me condo next week, along with the model Ferraris. (Three missing window wipers. One missing a major side panel. One with a broken engine cover. One with play-dough residue all over the driver's seat. Another with the steering misaligned. )


The kid can visit them at weekends.
