Had a look at Thairenthub- you can rent a very small apartment in a Lumpini Township residence in Rangsit, Klong 1 for 5000 baht. As it is a condo I presume electric and water will be at government rates. Pool a gym too- so that is at least some form of entertainment.
Know the area very well- there are plenty of nearby mom and pop style places for food etc and Future Park for shopping- not that you would be buying much from there!
Cambodia is no go for this since 2017 as you must have a work permit for stays of 6 months or longer. I wonder what the deal with Laos is? Nice chilled out place.
Not directly pertinent to the topic thread point, yet applicable to the over-all expat cultural lifestyle.

All in what one considers 'living'. On that amount of money, 'existing' might indeed be a more accurate word. By American standards, I have a very good pension. By British standards, it's a very, very, good pension. My family and I are able to live very comfortably, and that's the direct result of a lot of years of hard work, and a bit of planning. It would be possible to live on less, but why do so when I don't have to.
WTF was that at 10:34?
Anyway, these things have been done to death. It used to be 30k a month.... it seems like expat standards are going down the toilet in Thailand.
Did a bit of research- you can extend your 30 day Laos visa twice, thus getting a 90 day stay. If you have 200,000 in the bank you can get a 6-month multi-entry to Thailand. So that leaves 90 days to find somewhere else to be a nomad.

Condo for 2.8k in Nakhon Ratchasima with aircon.
Can be done, and if all you have is $600 a month, then yes, get out and live local if you can. No point staying the west as the there will be no social housing, no nothing to help someone so poor and frankly within 20 years people looking down the barrel at this type of income will be destitute.
Well, that's true.
I'd personally try to choose someplace close to a beach here.
There was a guy on one forum insisting he lives on 15,000. Cycles down to the beach everyday, 10 baht bottle of water. 30 baht Thai food. Sits and reads and swims all day. Thai market food in the evening, with market fruit etc as snacks. Think I'd be bonkers by the end of the first week.
That said, Main Mrs just called and is on the way back, asked if I wanted anything. Khao mun gai tod which costs a massive 35b was me answer. Will see.
That Thai dude that lives in a cave seems to be doing okay.
I am off to the Oriental to spend my monthly allowance on dinner for two
As YourDaddy rightly pointed out, this topic (living/existing on bugger-all) has been done to death on every forum related to Thailand.
What you spend is of course, very much dependent on your .. er .. dependents, such as wife, GF, gik etc etc, as well as your choice of food and drink and entertainment. There are so many variables.
Since ditching the wives and buying a pair of sturdy red rubber gloves and wholesale supplies of baby oil, I'm amazed at how far my meagre salary goes. I'm definitely living, not just existing.
Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile

20,000 baht doesn't even cover the daily soapy. It's a pathetic amount.
