Have you ever been imprisoned in Thailand?

LoL, I expect a deafening silence to my post.

Having read about the remand prison thread, I wonder how many of us have ended up behind bars in Thailand, ('Honest guv, I woz set up').

I only got as far as the cells underneath Pattaya Court House, luckily isolated from the cell that was chokacock with ladyboys.

I was lucky enough to afford bail money (never got it returned though). But there were quite a few westerners in that cell who couldn't afford bail, and were incararated and shackled with chains around their legs. They could have been as innocent as me (and yes, I was innocent).

Ha, I was nicked on the orders of a very rich guy whom I had 'upset', Cost me about 30,000 baht in lawyer's fees, plus 30,000 baht compensation, plus another 60,000 in stolen bail money.

Pissed me off big-time. After that, my opinion of the Law in this country took a nosedive (it wasn't that high anyway), and it went through the floor when the druggies 'stole' my hotel some years later and the local police supported them

After that, I moved to Myanmar and have never had a single problem in that country. I'm only back in Thailand for the moment 'cos the fast internet service in Myanmar isn't ... er ... fast!!

This sounds like gold dust Simon. Why don't you post up another chapter of the life story you were doing on this thread:-

No, I was actually guilty as fuck for what they were accusing me of, but both them and my good self knew they couldn't prove it so they had to let me go. Was funny as fuk though had this crazy Jap shouting at me right in my face for about an hour non stop and no idea what he was on about, me just sat there in handcuffs smirking seemed to make him worse. Did let me have a smoke though before continuing to shout and point. For some bizarre reason I think he was under the impression I understood Japanese.

I would elaborate but sadly I don't have the privilege of being anonymous on the internet so can't say more on here, over a beer is fine though.

Nothing in Asia, touch wood. I was arrested for being drunk and disorderly after being thrown out of the Bier Keller in Sheffield, aged 18. I wasn’t pissed, but I did trip over a police dog. Spent the night in a cell.
Fined Five quid the next morning.

Banged up abroad in Spain for a few days sharing a concrete floor with two clucking smack heads at the tender age of 19.

Fookers didn't catch me a second time

    Divorce settlement.

Actually no - when I previously divorced my crazy Thai ex, I got 50% of the value of that hotel when we sold it, and then more money that she paid me to build her a new hotel... (which she subsequently fcuked up of course).

The one that the druggies 'stole' was 100% owned by me, no wives or GFs involved. Unfortunately, the rule of law is pathetic in Thailand, and often corrupted, (as my experiences in Pattaya had shown me). Phuket is corrupt to the core. I had absolutely no chance of getting my business back - I knew that.

The only slight satisfaction that I got was because my little hotel was built on land that I had rented for 20 years, for a peppercorn, quarterly rent. So I simply stopped paying the rent.... the landlord threatened to take back the land (and buildings) if I didn't pay up. The druggies were furious because I wasn't prepared to pay the rent for the business that they had stolen from me. Finally, the Thai landlord (with local assistance) threw out the druggies and repossessed the land.

By then, I was long gone and had no intention of putting myself in the firing line by returning to Phuket. Best to move on. I lost about $100,000+ because of that incident, but the change in my circumstances led me back to Myanmar and a more profitable career in teaching at an international school and (nowadays), even more profitable teaching online. I don't have to deal with twats anymore and my stress levels are zero. I have time to keep fit and do charity work.
