Hignfy from the late 90's is legendary.
Agreed. HIGNFY is probably the most enduring satirical current news program on UK TV.
It fitted beautifully into the arena of Satire propounded by Private Eye.
The original editor of Private Eye, Peter Cook, eventually picked Ian to run the magazine with great success.
The combination of Ian Hislop and Paul Merton proved to be a winning team.
IMHO it was a shame they lost Angus Deyton as host but in retrospect the show has evolved is a very good way.
The amazing range of hosts has added to the the validity of the show.
For those who don't the program;
Shame about Deyton. He was great on the show. Got sacked for a bit of a fling involving coke and prostitutes, which used to be a normal weekend for me, at least..
I remember Hislop and Merton really sticking the boot into him about it on the show, just after the tabloids broke the story. They either didn't really like him, or are just shit mates.
That's a relief.
I thought he'd died.
This is the episode just before he was sacked. Deayton took it well, but really got roasted on this show. Some of the comments below state that Stephen Fry refused to come back on the show after this episode..
IIRC they once replaced a multi-no-show David Mellor on the show with an actual tub of lard.
This the tub of lard episode, brilliant. Twas Hattersly, not Mellor.
