    Matched Betting

I have a family member who is convinced he can make this his main source of income. I am very unconvinced about this, seems like a recipe for disaster. Is it possible? I know nothing of betting, horses or anything like that.

I had a mate who tried it for a year. Had a pot of money that he farmed basically and average out about 11% return on it. But then the pot started slowly getting smaller and he jacked it in. Many professional gambler out there, and many more people selling courses on how to be a pro gambler.

It can be done, It takes a lot of discipline and long hours.

There is a member on here who has and I think still earns a living from it.

Like day trading or dropship marketing someone is making a buck off selling courses.

Years ago I recall folks boasting about house flipping courses. That has faded with the last crash and market corrections. Gambling sounds like a gamble, no pun intended. I do know a guy in Vientiane that said he and his wife have a money lending business that yields 20% on the dollar. He holds some form of collateral be it gold or what have you and loans folks cash.

He has three houses a thick gold rope of a necklace and a brand new pickup truck so I figure he's being upfront with me.

Good luck with whatever you do, fish.

I have "gambled" for over sixty years. There was time shortly after betting exchanges were created when it was possible to make significant money. I know, I did. Without going into too much detail, money was made by finding apparent conflicts in different markets relating to the same event. It was also possible to place wagers with different bookmakers who offered different prices and be guaranteed to make a profit. This second method was known as "arbitrage".

Sadly, it was not long before clever people used computers to find these opportunities before the ordinary man could and guaranteed profits all but ended.

The only real way to make money is to have inside information. As an example I give a small stable just about four miles from my home. They race second class animals which tend to lose far more than they win. Their advantage is that they know when their runners are in form and stand a better chance of winning. They are not cheating in any way, they just have the advantage of knowing the real chances of their horses winning. I have, on occasion, fallen lucky and placed money on one of their horses when it has won. If I attempted to back all their runners, I would lose heavily.

My father and his brother were were very clever. My uncle especially so as he found a way on winning on the football pools which was very profitable. Sadly, the pools companies caught on and actually changed their rules so that his method could no longer succeed.

I have studied gambling of all sorts and believe that I am an expert. It is extremely unlikely that a newcomer to gambling can make money. It is unbelievably complicated and most fail to see its complexities.

I agree but he would still need to understand how bookmaking worked. Lots of people start up as bookmakers and go bust. It is not as easy as it seems.

This guy seems legit. He says it's definitely just something to do as a 'side income'. If you actually do get good at doing it, then bookies will just ban you.

Not true. In the early Eighties two casinos went bust in Plymouth. Yes, the book is skewed in favour of the maker but it doesn't always work out.

This reminds me of one of those "My mate married a tattooed biker slut and now she's cuckolding him with a platoon of Mounties who make the trip down Route 5 from Vancouver, making him shine their boots and belts as they fill her up with Mountie Maple Syrup. What should I do?" types of threads when we all know it's actually happening to the poster.

Are you a gambling addict Mandaloopy?

I've done it and it is possible to make to make money doing it but within 6 months I was restricted with nearly every bookmaker so gave up. One bookie banned me after one bet. There is no way you can make it your only source of income IMO (like the guy in the video says) because unless you show the behavior of a mug gambler the firms will take away your bonuses and /or severely restrict you. He is right "they are not stupid" in fact they are highly sophisticated.
The advice sites tell you to place plenty of mug bets and that by doing so it is sustainable long term, but by doing this your not making any money (your losing money) and they would say this as they're selling advice.
The main aim of these offers is so the bookmakers can steer you towards their casinos where they cannot lose and it takes extreme discipline not to get sucked in . They would not offer these bonuses if they didn't make money out of them. In essence they're basically fishing for degenerate gamblers.

So this family member has now managed to gamble his house away.
Glad I live thousands of miles away.
