    Lumbar Laminectomy or Laminotomy.

Apparently this what they do when you've got a "spur" growing out of one or more of your vertebrae.
The spur grows and every time you go to stand up, sit down or lie down it bites you like a hungry hound.
It'll also nibble when one is strolling along

    My question is simple;

Has anybody had such an Op in Thailand if yes, where and how much did it cost you?

Any recommendations , comments, stories, abuse or facts, gratefully appreciated.

    Cheers

    Merry Christmas

Landlord in a pub I used to drink in many moons ago had a Lumbar laminectomy. He was previously in 2 Para and had 2 compressed vertebrae which they pulled out. He was in bed for about 2 weeks afterwards, and being a dick, refused all pain relief after the fist day saying "If I feel the pain, I know when it's getting better". I've never seen someone properly white in agony and still trying to chat. Anyway - hurts like fuck. Another lady I know recently had a small lump removed from the dark side of her spine. She was on morphine for 2 weeks. It hurts like fuck. However, aside form finding it was cancerous, she was up and about after a couple of weeks.

This is all in the UK. Good luck!

Hurts like fuck. Did I mention that?

Actually though the real message is, after 2 weeks or so with proper care and management you'll be good as new.

Yes, that's what I've learnt so far.
    It's pretty annoying now.
It, the spur, has been nibbling away for 3 weeks now so we went to see the local Doc.
X rays and a bit of a chat with the 12 year old Doc, and there the spur was in all it's splendor.
There's not much more they can do up here other than give me all the morphine (which I hate) I should need.
They've also booked me in for some weird physio which basically meets a hot water bottle on the the inflicted area for 30 minutes and some exercises.
We'll see how this goes tomorrow.

I'm due (as in I've booked the flights) back in Australia at the end of January, so maybe I just wait it out until then.
Alternatively I go to a private hospital in Chiang Rai and pay for it.
Fuck knows what that would cost.

    Right then, there we are.

    Cheers

No worries mate. Keep in mind that is Rip Off BKK hospital price.

    mis.nkp-hospital.go.th/institute/admInstitute/nFile/sID2018-03-20_090442.pptx

    https://slideplayer.com/slide/14425979/

Check this out (powerpoint) - a specialist Tuanrit Sornsa-ard, in Nakornping Hospital CM doing a presentation about spinal stuff, and fairly recently. So you might like to have a chat with him? He also works for BKK hospital group as well (usually for specilaists to work at both a high society pang mak hospital and and a local joint) so you could get the same guy at half the price perhaps in the locals place

Years ago I heard that an injection of papain....the active ingredient in pawpaw or papaya....softened up the area and fixed it up. Papaya leaf tea is also a cure for cancer. In your stomach papaya helps digest meat protein, and injected, softens up the area...

It's only a spur, FFS. Why can't they just lop it off ? A laminectomy is a fusion of two vertebrae. I'd go for the minimally invasive injection, at least for starters and to see how it goes...

For pain management, you may also consider transdermal Fentanyl patches, they don't dull one down as much as Morphine.

If you can I think I would avoid any such operation in Thailand. UNLESS you can find someone who had it done successfully and will act as a reference. UNLESS you can find a reference and it is substantially cheaper.

This is simply my personal feeling. Lots of important nerves in there !!

Bangkok Christian is my favourite hospital. Not had any back surgery done there.

Most good guys in Bangkok work part time at Chula teaching hospital!
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Not sure about your condition CJ, but these are great for taking the gravity off slipped discs

There are loads of salt bath houses in Bangkok too where you can just float around in the dark

    At Bumrungrad more likely:

The Surgeon will make the final determination of each patient’s eligibility for procedure after examinations of the patient's credit cards and bank accounts.
