The Old Man of Storr, part of the Cuillin range of mountains on the Isle of Skye. We used to spend a few weeks here mountain training every October/November when it was guaranteed to be cold, wet and miserable before moving to Arctic Norway in January for three months.
That looks miserable already
Nah, that looks nasty . . . really nasty. Even if you'd pay me . . . I prefer being below the waters.
Having said that, we took up a new 'sport' a while ago - ice climbing. See if I can find a pic
These are stills taken from a vid . . . not far from here, roughly three hours from here . . . on an active vocano.
Frozen waterfall . . . a big chunk broke off just a few minutes after we left
And down . . .
An easier part.
My girls have abandoned me for this activity and wait at the batch (cabin) with hot Glühwein . . .
Posting that Skye photo brought back some memories. Our time there always culminated with a tactical night move with full kit through the mountains and then a dawn attack on the remote Sligachan Inn. For exercise purposes, there was no bridge across the river so crossing it, what is fairly fast flowing water was either up to your knees or your waist. Lovely. I found this short video which gives you some idea.
One of the most atmospheric places on earth, even in bad weather. Of course there has been a bridge across to the Isle for some years now, though the years I was there ferry was the only option. The few weeks that we spent each year, we could manage at least one night out in Portree, the main centre of population (I hesitate to call it a town), and many a story came of those nights.
A Stockport hen party on the move, from 1960.
I bet PAGs seen plenty of action.
Even though it was like throwing a kit bag in the back of a three tonner
Here's one that's just popped up as a memory on Facebook from a year ago. Me trying to get into the kitchen.
I don't have a mansion or an inground pool, but I have this movie star hangs out at my house. She tells me like it is. I'm carrying buckets of water to water my grapes, telling her I don't know how long before we have grapes, maybe I won't even live long enough to see grapes. She tells me "well you have to live longer than that dad" I start to get a tear in my eye, a lump in my throat "cause I'm not gonna water those grapes" I tell her you can finish the ice cream Trina because I'm getting fat. " it doesn't matter dad, your an old man, nobody cares" Thanks dau.
Out of the mouths of babes . . . ouch!
My only recollection of Skye is trying to pitch a tent in a raging hurricane......
Nice one and congrats:
Thanks. What the citizenship means to me is freedom. She will not need to ask the Thai government for permission if she wants to leave.
