One of my mad Thai ex's sisters married an old Norwegian guy, moved to Norway, learnt a bit of the language and then started moonlighting as a Thai masseuse (happy endings guaranteed). She was/is making a fortune in cash, used to visit Thailand with top-quality new clothes as presents.

Her husband dropped dead and I hear that she's married another old coffin-dodger....

I found out what this is all about. Someone is making a Chinese movie in town, (entitled 'How the glorious Red Army crushed the snivelling foreign scum in our southern province of Laos' or something similar...).

Apparently that arch features the Chinese characters for 'Golden Street'. Some modern plastic signs for Huwaii have also been erected on an old house, which had the local expat FB group up in arms....
