Why do Asians wave their arms when exercising?

This intrigues me. I see it in Thailand a lot when I'm jogging in the morning. Asians (Thai, Chinese etc), do bugger-all jogging or HIT exercises - they just seem to stand in one spot and wave their arms around a lot.

Is this a secret cardio exercise?

Do Asians suffer from poor blood circulation in their hands?

Seriously, I cannot figure out any substantial benefit to waving your arms around......
Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile

It's their warm up but they usually stop after the warm up and go and eat something.

Seen it in Asian gyms for years. Stroll in, wave arms around in a windmill motion for two or three minutes, get back on phone. If a tough workout, repeat. Once.

Filipinos seem to be a bit different.

I know quite a few a here that are serious exercise freaks. (iron man, marathon runs, 10K ocean swims, etc)

Did my head in when I was in Myanmar- they would enter the gym- grab a barbell and proceed to do trunk twists in the middle of the gym blocking everyone who wanted to get past. Not a gym brah, but I know that move is bad for the spine

Mandy, I went to the gym most days after school in NPT.

Every day I saw the same fat Myanmar women walking on the treadmill.

After 12 months of gym work-outs, I had the body of a 25 year old sexual athlete (er, well sort of...)

After 12 months, those same Myanmar women were still just as big, but now a lot of their blubber was muscle. Their quest to be slim had gone nowhere 'cos they were still stuffing their faces every day with the same pig's intestines and engine oil.

The school boss, assistant boss and numerous female teachers all gave up on going to the gym because the gym trainer 'pushed them too hard...'.

Had a male Thai come into the gym religiously - never missed a day that I was there. Climbed onto a treadmill and did a nice leisurely walk for ten minutes, then leave. THB 1k/month fee. But, he could tell all his friends he "worked out".

Simon it seems you might have had enough. They are not as good looking and when they exercise they flap their arms about.

    Belize is beckoning..

Most folks here in UB take the gym very seriously, that said there is one lass who gets on the leg press and then does it fast as she can for 5 min with no weights before walking out of the gym. Gyms here can be $$$$- a top one will set you back 500USD a month, mine is 80USD for 90 days at a time-it's very soviet

Easier. And it's not so much excersise for fitness, it's keeping the joints loose.

The oddest thing about it is that they need to go to the park to do what they could do on their porch. Have to. It's not to be seen, it's because the park is where it's done, so do it in the park. And many would drive to the park.

I see a neighbour jump on her motosy in the morning to go to the stadium which is a 1500 metre walk down one straight and unbusy road. She tells of doing 6 laps walking around the field (3km). The walk there and back would be the same distance. Go figure.

Large open parks are the only thing in Bangkok worth the money. The rest is just smoke and mirrors for the masses.

Recall my relief when Mr Suthep was kicked out of that park he took over. The one useful function of the Junta.
