Always enjoyed Patts as a vacation spot. Twenty plus years collecting money in the USA we returned to Bangkok every year or two. Always spent a month (Northeast USA is the other side of the world, 12 time zones 24- 30 hours travel time and horrendous jet lag - takes a week to reset the bio clock). So every visit less one we spent a week at Pattaya's seashore, usually Jomtien.
Enjoy the hell out of it. Walk across the street, plop ours butts into a beach chair under the umbrella and feed our faces on the food and drink delivered. Trinket vendors wave 'em off the first hour and they're gone, they need paying customers.
So, Pattaya is our hot vacation location. And will remain so.
When we relocated back to Thailand I used Pattaya was my initial base. Planned on spending a year touring Thailand looking for the "retirement" location - ya know - long term 'till ya die. Select location, buy digs, and enjoy the retired life until I get that final call.
So, in the plans, rented a nice 3 bed 2 bath luxury house, marble floors, 5 AC's, etc. in one of the many moo baans off Boonsampan in East Pattaya for a year. Stayed there six months - we did travel Thailand Chiang Rai to Songkla, Burma to Cambodia. So we did cover a very good portion of Thailand. Anyway, the significant other (born and raised Bangkok City Girl) refused to live in Bangkok, so she chose Nonthaburi (real big difference) well, actually, good for me in that Nonthaburi Immigration has far less traffic than Chaengwattana.
Anyway, interesting thing, when we lived in Pattaya and the beach was a 15 minutes drive away, we only visited the beach a few times. Made frequent 3X trips to the Rampho Market for shopping, and, off course my Immigration stuff at Soi 5.
Back to the off-thread Pattaya Pros/Cons discussion. Pattaya - fine by me. Wife - "too far away from Bangkok - end of discussion."
Ain't nothing wrong with Pattaya - can be overpriced to those "not-in-the-know". Wife the detective always found "cheap" stuff. Cheaper than we now have in Nonthaburi.
In summation, Pattaya has everything and every living style you could want. From the worse to the best, from sin city to family fun. Common-sense is the key. Of course, you do need money (anywhere).
I do apologize this went off topic, started off course at post #101.
But back on topic, I was at a LEO sponsored beer party deal last night and the place was loaded with fine women of all ages. My wife and her 4 GF's knocked back 2 towers and a pitcher of Leo. I had 1 glass. I am not much of a beer drinker. Good for 1 or 2 and then it starts to get boring and stale so I decided to be the DD for the night. They all got plowed. Was fun to watch and the drive home with all of them in the truck was...well...interesting.
Our "Beer Girl" was cute. About 22 or 23. Kept pouring the beer by me with her VJJ damn near stuffed in my face....
You mean except for being in Thailand, living with a Thai girl for what must be something like 12 or 14 years now, and being surrounded by Thai's 24/7?. Pattaya isn't just Walking Street you know...
You sound like one of these fucking idiots who thinks because they live in Thailand (assuming you do live in Thailand) that they've cut ties with the West and and now an integrated part of the local Thai community. How many Thai friends do you have?. I'm not talking Thai's you know by face and name, I mean Thai's that invite you over for parties, pop in for a cup of coffee and a chat randomly, or ask if you're free to join them on a family dinner outing sort of thing. Think about that, if you will.
Well my last arrival stamp says I'm in Thailand, where I live, so I'll go with that over your geographic advice.
As previously mentioned in over 20 years living here I've *discovered* pretty much all of Thailand via driving my car or riding boats and planes but can find nowhere else I'd rather live, and I have the means and freedom to live anywhere. So assuming you also know the country from top to bottom, can you point out somewhere that would suit my parameters of somewhere to call home better, a few of those being:
(1) A tax free environment (ok that's all of Thailand on o'seas investments)
(2) Ocean view condo within walking distance to uncountable bars/pubs/eateries.
(3) Golf, 20 courses as a minimum within 20-50 mins drive. (This is very important to me, playing Golf is my lifelong recreation)
(4) Restaurants, and lots of them which creates a be good and reasonably priced or go bust quickly business environment. If I want (say) Italian food tonight I want a choice of a dozen++ places including some I've never been to. I also want to be able to eat food out from all over the world. All within a 25 min drive.
(5) Private health care close by.
(6) Supermarkets and lots of them for those of us who like to cook at home, where you can get anything from o'seas.
(7) Local markets where you can get anything from Thailand (ok that's all of Thailand too).
(8) A few large Malls to wander around and go see a movie on a rainy day.
(9) The chance to have lots of friends from all over the world that also live locally and share the same interests.
(10) All the services that come with being in a large Expat / Tourist community ranging from Plumbers to Lawyers of Expat standard, not some try-hard who's going to "have a crack" and fuck things up entirely.
Any advice would be appreciated...
In one word- Diversity
Broken down-
infrastucture, International schools, hospitals ,abundance of leisure activities, beaches, cheap Farang food, pussy and to piss off Prag and JPPR
Has Chitty hacked your account?
Do your friends have appartments on Soi Buakao by chance?
With 2 international airports within an hours drive and a ferry you can be discovering anywhere in Thailand within a few hours.
What do you classify as 'living in Thailand'?
I'm guessing a nice big house in Isaan overlooking a rice paddy, a couple of buffalo and a load of trees huts and bamboo shacks full of poor inbred people who scream 'Farang' every time you visit the local store for some Mama noodles ?
And there's the crux....you had a shit holiday down Soi 6
To the OP
was in Thong Lor at witching hour a couple nights ago...
Thought I'd died and entered nymph heaven.
555...nutting but love for ya Dil...
My final comments on Pattaya. It has all the things that both Headworx and Dil mentioned. However it also has a lot of the shit I mentioned in a previous post as well. I know for me personally I had no intentions of moving abroad to a tourist area. They are great to visit but after a few days you've had enough of the area. Kind of like Cabo San Lucas, Tahiti, Bahamas etc. Great visits but could never ever live in them.
That said, I do fully understand we all live where it suits our wants and needs and more over comfort zone. Pattaya is what it is.
For me, just swap golf for sailing and I’m happy with your list.
I have only ever spent 36 hours in Pattaya, but it does have a livable feel about it, unless you want a cabin in the woods lifestyle like Jeff.
Not everyone feels the need to be assimilated into the Thai Borg empire. Some like to be in the company of others who can speak the same language, but accept the need for a few essential language and cultural skills.
I ve travelled dxtensively in the country and, apart from a dislike of cities, you do need some connections to a civilized society to make up for the occasional downsides of living here, traffic, corruption, face etc.
Same me Prag. I know Dil is just messin with us. But like you said, I can have virtually all of what Dil and Headworx mention ( Sans beaches which aren't that nice anyway in Pattaya, choices of 20 Italian restaurants and international schools) without all the tourists, congestion, noise, pollution and the seedy shit you see there. I can hop a plane and fly to a beach for a few days and with no kids in tow, international schools aren't even on my radar.
I pinged a few TD members wanting to know where one could live there as I did have an employment opportunity. I drove down with my wife and we toured the area. There were some nice areas outside the major city however my commute to work would be an hour. If I lived closer it was just too much noise and BS going on. So I politely declined the position saying I did not want to live down there 5 days a week and then fight traffic and all of that on weekends. Money was GREAT but area sucked.
To both Headwox and Dil. My last paragraph might have been a bit harsh because I didn't include for most people.
But would you really disagree with the sentiments? It's a farang enclave where the vast majority of long noses are pretty much in the dark about Thailand and have no real wish to know any more. Just walk in the bars and speak to people for 5 mins and you'll have your answer!
Ok for a 2/3 day mad one, but to live there? Not for me. A quick look at the news each day will tell you why it's hardly paradise sur mer.
Only good things to come out of Pattaya is route 3 and my missus from her job as the bar cashier in Soi 6.
The whole of Pattaya would breathe a sigh of relief knowing that a miserable twat like you is going to stay away. Sir, you are a grizzler ! Please try to stick to the subject of the the thread. Thai women have not gone to the dogs. Please change your forum name to "Grizzler".
I've never been to Pattaya and never will.
Whole place should be floated out to sea and sunk.
