Agreed. Everyone's personal situation is different.

For the moment, I'm/we're happy for flushing toilets, warm showers, responsible childcare and affordable tender scotch (rib eye) fillets

Absolutely. That's why I believe it would be unfair to criticize anyone's comment because their response is where they are in their lives.

You didn't having flushing toilets while living here? Christ that would be brutal. Same with running water and reliable power and a fridge with an automatic icemaker in the door....

Agree, building a career, producing and raising a family were great times. Now a very different but equally enjoyable and stress free. Helped by the presence of the emergency pot of gold.

    Observation + regulation = Control

Another good reason to throw a stick in the wheels of globalization.

This doesn't belong in this thread at all, it's not in the least bit stressful -- quite the opposite actually, it's funny -- but it is from my home country and there's nowhere else to post it.

So anyways... I just read this morning that Sir Peter Jackson of LOTR and Hobbit fame as a private jet that can travel further and faster than anything in the entire NZ Air Force can.

I guess it's kinda stressful for the NZAF.

Reminds me of the apocryphal story of the farmer who imported a Cold War era Soviet jet into NZ years ago. He was denied permission to fly it officially because it could be out of NZ airspace too quickly, but the rumor always was that it was unofficially because it was an embarrassment to the Air Force that an aged Soviet jet was technically better than their squadron of Harriers.

Ok, Honestly I will refrain from passing judgement for now but can say from the past there is no place like home.

Well of course having cash makes everything a bit better no matter where one lives. If we would have stayed in the states we would have been just fine however both of us would have had to remain employed which really gets in the way of trying to have fun and live life. I also knew staying in the west meant I would have had to stay in some sort of exec management role which I had grown terribly bored of but at my age making a career change was not something I wanted to do. I wanted to relax and make every day a Friday not die working at some job loaded with stress and constant B.S.

Moving here to Thailand we both got to retire and live an easy life and no stress. Its not paradise but what is that anyway....

    All in good time.
To pack up and go? To fly away because at times things get difficult. I'm thinking more and more about it though it's just thoughts.
Could it be done? Yes. Is it the right course at this time? Can't place that bet now. I don't pass judgement on anyone that has as I often think to myself what am I still doing playing the game however I hold a good hand so I can not find it in my heart to fold now.
