You'll love it when you get dementia, they have places now that recreate the golden days to make patients feel at home and responsive.

Yep much better then, and your dinner was ready on the table. Your wife listened patiently whilst you bullshitted about what a bad day you'd had but all the while had spent the day down the gentlemans club having popped gloria over the desk mid morning.

Some of those were a bit before my time.
Having said that, my younger days were in 1970's Fiji which was at the best of times 10 years behind the modern world, at the worst of times still in the 1920's, so I can relate.
eg, petrol bowsers consisting of a hand lever pump and a large (maybe 10 gallons?) glass tank that gravity fed your fill-up.

The airport fire truck (landrover with fire extinguishers) chasing the cows off the field before any plane could land.
Getting the cane in school and detention after school.
Girls that put out because you were the man and you'd bought dinner.
Simplex boat engines that you had to roll the flywheel to start.
Doing your banking before 4 pm Friday or else you'd have to wait until 9 am Monday.
Buses that stopped anywhere on the route, including so a passenger could have a quick chat with a relative or buy from a roadside stall.
    ....

    Damn young fuckwits.
Consider the 80s and 90s to be nostalgic, attempting to fit in.

Still remain Generations haven't a clue.

If you were born before mid 70's, the 80's would certainly be nostalgic, no mater how old you are now.

We have a, not so fancy, 10 litre one at the local store today. Screwed into the top of a drum.

    This with a sight gauge:

We had those too, but for kerosine (kerosine was for the Primus cookers and lamps that everyone used). Most "mom and pop" shops had them.

YEp, used to love going to the pub with my dad lunchtime after he'd been on shopping duty on saturday. Pint or two for him, pint of shell on prawns for me. Back to sport on Grandstand on the B&W TV, he'd crack his party 7 and settle down to golf which most of the time consisted of the camera man panning around trying to spot the ball in the air. Sigh happy days
