OneTaste Stops ‘Orgasmic Meditation’ Classes, U.S. Locations Set to Close
    By Ellen Huet (Bloomberg)

OneTaste, a sexuality-focused wellness company that teaches a practice called “orgasmic meditation,” is closing all U.S. locations and will no longer host in-person classes or gatherings, the company said.

In June, Bloomberg Businessweek reported on accusations of predatory sales and recruitment practices at the company. OneTaste denied the allegations. It said the closure of the centers was unrelated and that they are run by affiliate entities.

After hosting a smattering of final gatherings this weekend, the three U.S. locations in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City will stop offering any further courses or events, OneTaste said Friday. A fourth in London no longer offers classes and is holding discussions about whether to shut down, a spokeswoman for the company said. OneTaste centers also cut employees as part of the change, though the spokeswoman declined to say how many were affected or how many remain. Its “focus for the future,” according to a statement, is “to bring the world of Orgasmic Meditation (OM) online for a global audience.”

Orgasmic meditation, which OneTaste developed and trademarked, is a practice where one person, usually a man, strokes a woman’s clitoris with a gloved, lubed fingertip for exactly 15 minutes. OneTaste has said the practice, which its members call “OM,” helps women connect differently with their bodies and with their intuition, while teaching men to be more sensitive to a woman’s needs. The company was founded in San Francisco in 2004 and made money by selling classes, coaching programs and retreats about the practice and the spiritual teachings associated with OM.

Former OneTaste members and employees told Bloomberg Businessweekthat for years, the company pushed them to ignore their financial, emotional and physical boundaries. Some said they went deep into debt at the encouragement of OneTaste staff, who suggested they take out additional credit cards to pay for expensive courses. They also said OneTaste staff told them to OM with or have sex with each other and with customers, sometimes to help with class sales and sometimes for spiritual growth. In 2015, OneTaste paid an out-of-court settlement to a former worker, who claimed she faced sexual assault, sexual harassment and labor violations at work.

OneTaste denied the allegations and said it has never required any of its staff to engage in a sexual act. It said the settlement was confidential. In July, the company replaced its chief executive officer, Joanna Van Vleck, with one of its owners, Anjuli Ayer. Van Vleck remains employed with the company as its director of outreach.

The company said it will also discontinue classes held at the Land, a retreat property in California’s Anderson Valley that is largely owned by Ayer. Previously planned courses will still take place. “Our mission remains the same, and we’re hard at work to develop our online offerings and to build a better company for our customers and employees,” OneTaste said in a statement on its website.

Indonesian policewomen measured through 'purity and beauty', subjected to virginity testing

Women looking to become police officers in Indonesia are reported to have to undergo an invasive "two-finger" virginity test and be "pretty" as a part of the recruitment process.
    Key points:

Virginity testing female police recruits continues despite pressure to end the practice
Policewomen must also be "pretty" and subjected to a list of physical standards
The policewomen are often deployed in high visibility roles such as public relations

Despite the tests not being recorded or on the books as an official requirement, it is still conducted throughout the country under the guise of a "morality or physical examination".

Andreas Harsono from the Human Rights Watch said Indonesian police believe that society will not accept a female police officer who has an active sex life or used to be a sex worker.

"The logic is that they only want good girls to be police officers," he said.

The test is conducted by inserting two fingers into the vagina to see if the woman's hymen is still intact — a method which has long been criticised as invasive while also not being able to accurately determine a woman's virginity either.

Indonesian woman Zakia — whose last name is not included to protect her identity — told Human Rights Watch in a complaint obtained by the ABC that she had failed her test when she applied to become a police officer earlier this year.

Zakia claimed the virginity test she was subjected to was not conducted by a medical doctor.

"They didn't just insert their fingers into my vagina, but also into my anus. They kept probing … it was extremely painful," she said.

"Every time I remember what happened, I cry … I feel like I don't want to live anymore."

Zakia was a martial arts athlete who said that over the years she has had to do many splits and other exercises which may have ripped her hymen.

"Once, I fell and my vagina hit a block of wood, but I don't know whether my hymen broke," she said.

"My mother told me not to worry about it … but I told [the police officers interviewing me] that I remember feeling great pain in my vagina due to the fall — after that, the interview was over," she said.

Zakia said she was intimidated by the officers to "come clean" and insisted she was a virgin — she did not get accepted to the second round of the selection process.

Anus fixation, cross-dressing.... I have serious suspicions about you Loops.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Looper, I think I'm not in a minority here when I say that all 5 of them being virgins, my first thought is not the anus.

Would they still be virgo intacta after that probing?

OneTaste - a most interesting name...

fourteen years of flying under the radar

The company was founded in San Francisco in 2004 and made money by selling classes, coaching programs, and providing... well, the professional services of select gigolos.

OneTaste denied the allegations and said it has never required any of its staff to engage in a sexual act. Hmm… also on page 2 of the Bangkok bargirls employee handbook.

Of course, subjectively, what is your definition of a "sexual act"?

...professionally stimulating a vaginal structure is hardly a sexual act (to a gay staff member): all part of a day's work...

Correct. And you don't have to be gay to be professional about it.
