Big Joke true to his word: No Tips signage going up at Thai Immigration nationwide[/COLOR]

\The new head of Thai immigration - Maj-Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakpal - has begun implementing his tough message about corruption at immigration.
The signage going up nationwide is clear and unequivocal: No Tips. [/COLOR]
By this he means no more back-handers to corrupt immigration officials or the agents who collect the tea money from tourists and either pass it on or keep it for themselves.
Pictures posted on the Immigration Facebook page showed a permanent sign at an airport that said: No Tips please. The message was also in a graphic with Royal Thai Police insignia behind and "The Immigration Bureau at the bottom. [/COLOR]
It was also in Chinese and Hindi.[/COLOR]

Another stuck on a window at an immigration office clearly stated in English that visa fees were just 2,000 baht - no more.At Sadao on the Thai/Malaysian border a printed sign on a counter said: "No Tip" while an accompanying sign said "No other fees charged in passing this border".Maj-Gen Surachate only started his job as immigration commissioner on Monday after his move from deputy chief of the Thai Tourist Police Bureau where he was involved in many highly publicized crime busts.

In the bad old days doing border runs to Cambodia stick 200 baht in your passport go to front of queue immigration officer takes passport and the money get your passport stamped save 30 minutes queue time. And all the bloody kids trying to get you to shade under some crappy umbrella.

They could end tipping by making it a criminal offence with penalties of up to 7 years jail and or 200 baht fine.

Apparently it's not just about 'tips'. Agents are also not allowed so people with out the financial requirement are out as well.

Surachate also vowed to go after all agents and their customers nationwide involved in procuring visa extensions with fake documents.
He was speaking at a press conference on Wednesday over the arrest of Yupin Jantakhat, 55, who was acting as a visa extension agent. She has been charged with falsifying tax documents for the purpose of seeking visa extensions for her clients.

The trouble and the inalienable fact is that they will still raise the same amount of money, they'll just find an alternate avenue to collect it. Bit like squeezing that toy slime they sole in the 80's squeeze one bit the rest got bigger.

Corruption is the term for the process of obtaining and moving monies up the societal hierarchy to 2 star level where upon it becomes legitimate income.

It is with TOT if you require the "premium call out " service, you are of course not required to pay if happy to wait, they used to tap me up for Johnny Walker back in the awful dial up days, Mrs wised up and I hide as she "pours " them a large Yadong and a glass of Ale, no take always.
