Life and Law in Thailand, Police Inspections – What should you do?

This article in the Chiang Rai Times interested me.
The only time we were stopped by the cops on what was an obvious setup looking for a kick back occured last year. We were driving home from Chiang Kong and got pulled over. We did so and they started to claim that our granddaughter was without paperwork, she's 3, and that we would have to pay a fine.
I started to film the event on my camera. 1 cop ran off and jumped in his truck while the other 2 started shouting at us. Saying that things would be a lot worse for us if I continued filming. I continued, they turned away, and we got back in the car and drove off.
An unpleasant experience but it could have been worse.

Have any of you lot filmed when stopped and what was the cops reaction?

According to this article it's perfectly legal to film.

I've only ever been stopped a couple of times but no issues with either. First time was a random check and just had to show my license, second time I may have taken a red-light as more of a suggestion than a directive so had my license taken and had to go pay a fine to get it back.

So no need to film anything. Plus I'm one of those people who always thinks 'oh I should've filmed / photographed that!' after the fact.

That was kind of brave CJ. But considering the circumstances better than getting into a shouting match.

Just install a carcam in your vehicle. They spot them and wave you through.

Chances are these instances are a fanciful figment of your lively imagination - per usual.

Sure, fake cops do exist. But very far and few between.
And the chances that you would encounter a so called fake cop would be rare.

The real police and their local mafia associates know who everyone is and isn't and certainly benefit by monitoring a firm grip.

Your chances are mixing with a fake monk than with a supposed fake copper.

Stop making up shit to justify your already understood agenda.

You seem to be making even less sense than usual these days, jeff.

    Quite an 'achievement'.

    Your mind is failing, daily.
The article linked in the OP speaks of fake cops, so it's not me "making up shit". Besides, it was a question, not an assertion.
Your language, so full of grammatical errors and fanciful diversions, is indicative of some mental problems. I say that not to insult but to inform.
    What is my understood agenda?

No, they weren't fake cops they were genuine and we've seen them a number of times since.
Interestingly they tend to move away when they recognise us.

Webcams have changed their games a lot as my wife mentioned. Way too much visibility. Years ago I used to see those random areas where a group would set up a place on the road to take money. I see them very seldom now.

In all my time here I have been trapped by a group one time and my wife went ballistic and refused to pay them. They claimed I had been in the fast lane to long and wanted 1000 bht. My wife got out and started writing names and they told her get back in the car and leave. They had 3 others pulled over and they seemed to be paying willingly.

    Mexico has same games

Indeed,...it is legal to film the activities of the police.

However, be glad that STOP incident occurred in Thailand, and not the USA...

The conclusion would have definitely been a totally different outcome,...guaranteed...

More than a bit moot and insignificant, as the OP and subsequent thread has no referencing relation, nor comparisons, with your beloved Amerikkka.

Why pay on such a premise that they're perpetuating a criminal act themselves.
    Stand ones ground.

Know too many [Thais] that don't put up with this bullshit - questioning and challenging the graft-like authority.
Even when the traditional textbook stereotype has them all timid and cow-towing to said authority figure -

    Fuck the criminal policing systems.

Your linked article is written by "Editor"

There are two lawyers names, one Thai the other ameristani.

One should not assume the "law", as offered in the article, are Thai laws or Thai/ameristani practice, without receiving a legal opinion.

"Mr. Robert R. Virasin is a licensed U.S. Attorney who has handled criminal immigration waivers and Mr. Yutthachai Sangsirisap is a licensed Thai Attorney who has represented many individuals in criminal court They can be reached at info@virasin.com or at www.virasin.com."

Somebody advertising for business? I suppose the "newspaper" needs the revenue.

There is another alternative reason and that is that insurance companies in Russia are clamping down on accident claims/scams.
Dash-cam footage is the only real way to substantiate your claims in the court of law
Here in Ting Tong Land is the same now and insurance companies will reduce your insurance premium if you have a dashcam.

I think it's a requirement by Russian law, or at least their insurance companies that you have a dashcam installed. Makes sense anywhere, tbh.
