Few Pics from my Drag Race days

I was cleaning out a box of crap today and came across this CD. I had no idea what was on it. I opened it up and it was Race 3 of the Div 7 Street car class I raced in.

    Basic info

    Chevrolet 67 Nova SS.
All steel body and all factory glass (Rules for the class)
332CI small block Chevy, AFR 227 Custom ported aluminum heads
ProCharger D3R supercharger with air to water intercooler
    Hogan Sheetmetal intake manifold
    Custom programmed EFI system
Back tires were DOT appvd 31 x 12.5 tires

HP was 1358HP at 32lbs of boost

    Motor set up

    Burn out before pre stage

Had a solo run on this one as guy broke in previous round and couldn't make the call so we let it rip. My car left super hard and carried the front end out 100feet

    Man those were fun days.

Cool car. I used to love going to the local drag strip. The smell of race gas and burning rubber.

The pics were done in B&W to give it a nostalgic look.

@ Naptownmike I agree. I really enjoyed hanging at the track. The gas. rubber smell. competition. Engine blow ups. All made for fun times.

A year later I dumped the ProCharger for a 91mm turbo as I could make more HP and no parasitic HP loss with the belt on the ProCharger.

Great pics, it must have sounded like the earth was cracking in half around the car when you backed off the gas running 32psi boost!. What sort of times were you running?.

Here's a couple of Memes I'm sure you can relate to

So what does that equate to in terms of 0-60 and 0-100mph?

I was talking to fellow racing enthusiasts a while back in the bar and in the middle of the story I said " and thats when I blew a tranny" I quickly realized not to use that expression in Thailand.

JP that's a really clean looking Nova. GMs 66 to 69 were the best, IMHO

Well I had adjustable wastegates and bypass valves so letting off the throttle at the big end was not to loud and it slowed down quick once chute was deployed.

I ran 5 years in NHRA Div 7 circuit in a Street Car org. Like all orgs, politics took over and I got tired of the games as they changed the rules to slow us down and those rules can cost thousands of dollars. So I sold the entire set up and took up Baja truck racing for awhile.

The simplest answer: a lot less than his.

Ours were / are pure street cars though, even being run on street tires.

Dil. I never looked at 0 - 60mph or 0 - 100mph. everything was 60ft time, 330ft. 660ft and 1320ft. The data logger tracked all that and it told us how the car was tracking and Boost level.

    Typical 60ft was 1.2 seconds. At 660ft was 4.8 to 5secs at 135mph to 140mph. 1320ft (1/4mi) was 8.0's at 190ish mph.

Part of the rules for the class was it had to be all steel except for hood. Had to be registered and insured and early when the series started you had to drive it 30 miles to prove it was street driveable. I did drive mine on the street quite a bit. Was easier with a turbo but not so friendly with the ProCharger Centrifugal blower. It made a ton of noise and heat. Belts didn't last long either at $125 a piece.

Over 18 metres in 1.2 seconds from a standing start is impressive mate. You must have had soft compound tyres?

They were Mickey Thompson ET Street tires. Now they are all Radials. Basically what made them street tires were 4 grooves in them. They were quite sticky after you blazed at burnout. I wouldn't want to use them as daily driver. Sidewalls were not designed for highway use. I ran a 31 x12.5 tire. That was the class rule. everybody had to run that tire and it was a big equalizer as you could make a ton of power but how to hook it up was the challenge. I used to leave off the transbrake at 8lbs of boost because anymore and I just blew the tires off it. I had many times where I broke the tires loose at 1000 ft out trying to apply more boost and power.
