Let's see. She says her dad is from Chicago and she does a lot of work related traveling around Asia Pacific, but I agree it all sounds very Shrewed Punturesque.

Whereas there is a Thai restaurant in pretty well every suburb of my hometown.
Their diet is generally pretty awful....lots of junk food, but of course there are many exceptions to the rule. Particularly in the outer parts, where the diet is simple. I hope you have found a good one, YD.

Filipino food is awful. In the states I was married to a Filipina for 21 years. I went to hundreds of family get togethers. The food was just bad. Only noteworthy dishes were Chicken Adobo and Sinigang soup.
