As goes the news cycle, sometimes one piece of news can begat another.
And in this case, amidst all the talk about Elon Musk referring to Vern Unsworth as "pedo guy" and standing trial for it, Google searches for "Elon Musk" and "pedo" turned up another very interesting result: a little covered article by The Telegraph that claims Elon Musk's 72 year old father, Errol Musk, has a baby with his 30 year old step daugther, Jana Bezuidenhout, whom he has known since she was 4.

Elon musk won his defamation case, really perplexing and disappointing, imho.

Elon Musk did not defame British caver in tweet

Musk's lawyer told the jury the tweet did not rise to the level of defamation. Attorney Alex Spiro said Unsworth also failed to show actual damages.

A jury of five women and three men deliberated for less than an hour in the afternoon in US District Court.

Unsworth had ridiculed Musk's effort to help in the rescue by having engineers at his companies, including Space X and The Boring Co, develop a mini-submarine to transport the boys. Despite working around the clock to build the sub, Musk arrived in Thailand late in the rescue effort and the craft was never used.

Unsworth called it nothing more than a "PR stunt'' and said Musk could stick the sub "where it hurts.''

In his closing argument, Wood called Musk a "billionaire bully'' who lied when he claimed "pedo guy'' only means "creepy old man'' and said his apologies to Unsworth were insincere.

"When Elon Musk tweets something it goes around the world,'' Wood said. "It can never be deleted."

Unsworth testified that he had to sue Musk for defamation because if he didn't, the allegation would seem true.

Spiro mocked Unsworth's claims that he had been shamed and humiliated and that the tweet effectively sentenced him to a life sentence without parole.

Spiro noted that Unsworth had been honoured by the queen of England and His Majest the King of Thailand, had his photo taken next to British Prime Minister Theresa May and been asked to speak at schools and contribute to a children's book, which showed that no one took Musk's insult seriously.

"People accused of pedophilia don't get celebrated by world leaders,'' Spiro said. "Kings and queens and prime ministers don't stand next to pedophiles.''

I thought at the time his remarks were bold and unfair, even with strained emotions, considering Musk was just one of dozens of individuals, agencies and govs offering ideas and resources.

Anyway even if the sub was unsuited to those conditions it was better available than not, so there was no need to kick off a sideshow.

Well, you look at it from this perspective - boys lost in a cave - a company with highly paid engineers who are taken off their assigned job and tasks (with deadlines and a schedule to meet) ordered to drop what their doing and put together something "today" to aid in the rescue effort. Can't fault the motivation - Musk is paying the engineers, they don't work cheap.

I thought these kinds of borderline gambit claims ran the risk of the court awarding costs to the winner i.e. Unsworth should now have to pay for Musk's legal fees.

I would love to see the look on Unsworth's face if that were the case.

^ Read the thread on the rescue here and you will be better informed. The sub was a dud whatever the weather.


This decision is another demonstration that, in the UK and the US, people are basically too stupid nowadays to sit on juries or vote.

There was never going to be any other outcome, US protecting its own but it'd be interesting if someone called out Trump as Pedo guy now the precedent is set.

Unsworth's original insult to Musk was unnecessarily vulgar.

He does not deserve any compo for starting a needlessly offensive childish shit-fight in public.
