Not all widows are 55! I met one or rather was paired up with one in Indonesia she was OK and very grateful. I'm guessing 35. Her husband had died and she didn't really like any of the local guys.

Every bloke needs a trip to Thailand once in a while. It is winter in Siberia so I am taking respite from the storm clouds by re-acquainting myself with the LOS. Strange to be back after 4 years. Like learning to ride a bicycle again. A bit wobbly at first.

Also taking the opportunity to watch the world cup in a better time zone.

The half time score is Thailand 5 - South Africa 1.

I just discovered that the previous teacher in my role was 'let go' after he was spotted bringing a local hooker back to his hotel. The school commented that they did not want to employ 'that type of teacher....'

At least that confirms that local hookers do exist in this town...

I'm sure the handsome young guys can get a real date. But I'm fast approaching 60 years old and realistic enough to recognise that no young female will go near my dangly bits without a financial incentive.

I did sign up for Badoo, which is apparently used quite a bit in Myanmar. I am getting advances from Myanmar females 'of a certain age' who would not look out of place in the 'House of Horrors'. No thanks.

As to saving up enough money to return to Thailand, this is my quandry. In Thailand, I know the ins and outs of p4p, and since I speak Thai very well, I am very much at home over there, both for day-to-day living/working and for fun. But it is well-nigh impossible to get a decent job at my age.

My gig in Myanmar can probably continue until I'm 70 years old if I wish, (so long as I don't bring home a hooker..). I'm trading $$$ for abstinence!

The situation is further complicated because I have a 12-year old son in Thailand. Although we are not close, I feel that I should play a greater role in his life, and that is all but impossible while I work in Myanmar.

I have considered returning to Thailand, getting a teaching job in a government school (35,000 baht), and also doing online teaching for a few hours each evening, thus grossing perhaps 60 or 60K each month.

I used to teach online from Myanmar, and the pay rates do seem to have increased over the last couple of years (for experienced and competent teachers).

Decisions, decisions

There is a hotel near Zajo market in Mandalay with excellent "room service" the name escapes me, but I'll get back to you.

Simon, as you may be aware, relationships in Thailand are a bit fuzzy. A girlfriend will often ask for help with the rent, and this slides into prostitution very easily. What you need to do is find a woman who is willing to allow you to part the labial folds occasionally if you help her with the rent. She will appear to other Burmese as a girlfriend and so be acceptable. Find some poor woman who appears friendly to you, and who has had her husband leave her with a kid to feed, then buy her a few things and let her work out that if she allows your advances, she will get more. That is how it works in Thailand.
