Now I don't buy them anymore, since I'm trying to cut down on processed foods.

I've been to Vienna, Austria and I didn't see that kind of sausage. The sausages there (wurst) were mostly big. So where did the product Vienna sausage (in a can) come from?
That style "Vienna sausage are an American invention. Same as Spam. The fact that they are part of your upbringing is a Reflection of the close US-Philippines links I suppose.

Still, kinda funny to see Spam portrayed as a middle class/rich thing, as for a UK upbringing its a very low class food.

Article calls them hot dog makers...

Wiki says this is a european vienna sausage.

How that "progressed" to the horrid little things in a can is still a mystery to me...

The best sausages I have ever eaten along with the bread rolls was in Nuremberg when I was working there.

Every morning up at 7.00 to get breakfast before the car picked me up.

When I was a student, an empanada was 10-15 pesos, a cheap & filling snack. Sometimes they put potato & carrot in the filling as extenders.

Btw, Spam is so pricey now! I haven't bought it in ages, so I don't know. It's now PHP 129 per can of Spam - when I last bought it, it was around PHP 100. At the supermarket yesterday, there was a family searching for the regular flavor Spam (the blue one), because only the Spicy one (red) was available. Since it wasn't there, they bought Ma Ling instead (Ma Ling is a brand of luncheon meat from China).

Reminds me of the "Goodbye Spam, Hello Ma Ling" memes that came out here in PI when Duterte started siding towards China than the USA. Heh...
you couldnt give me a can of spam let alone pay 129 pesos for it. . but i must admit a do like the corned beef n onions as a breakfast dish if its not swimming in oil

Spam in the UK is £2 and priced up in PHP its £1.89. So its expensive for what it is, canned pig slurry.

That said I eat it. And have been known to secrete it in low class hotels which gave me shit when I was travelling so they got a stink and infestation of flies.

And jellied eels are now a luxury item in the UK. Not had them in years.

Poor man's food in the day and as you say a delicacy for those that long for the taste these days.

I tried them once with my cockney mate but had some soused mackerel to deaden the taste.

    Not my best dinning experience!

i have seen the odd vid of pie , but today i see him in a different light, hes very inteligent.. must look up his accent too.
he made a comment , ie, gammon faced, which caught me out, and was still laughing when i realised the vid had continued, had to go back for a rerun..very clever man.
