Is Bangkok really that cheap? Our cost of living compared to the world

I was just reading this and thought it was interesting. How the cost of living in Bangkok compares to these cities. Accurate?

Really good comparisons for people living/working in Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, and London.

If you are moving here many things are more expensive than you may imagine. Anything imported. If you wear glasses get some new ones before you come.

^Cool, thanks. I don't wear glasses, but I'm sure it can be helpful to others.

The cost of Starbucks in Thailand? Higher than all of the above mentioned countries! Wow! And I thought Starbucks was expensive here in Shanghai. lol.

I see the rents are very low in Bangkok in the area I will live compared to Shanghai.. very big difference. Rents are crazy reasonable in Bangkok for a studio or 1 bedroom a bit out of center.

If you like wine and to eat reasonably good quality imported food in civilised surroundings either at home or in decent restaurants and to drink imported beers then Bangkok is expensive.

Thai produce in most Thai outlets is distinctly average in quality and their ersatz European produce is universally shite and over priced for what you get. Thai produce is simply a vehicle for indulging in their fetish for balancing taste and little else so it's cheap. Quality beef, pork, chicken and lamb for their own taste is irrelevant to most Thai and is quite redundant in their culture - if you are going to swamp everything in garlic, chilis, fish sauce and soy/oyster sauce then what's the point, eh?

there is some truth in that, but for me the biggest drawback of thai meat and farmed fish and seafood produce are the poisons in the way of antibiotics and growth hormones that they are fed with, likewise thai fruit and vegetables with their unacceptable levels of the pesticides that they are regularly sprayed with.

That would be the more astute comparative.

    Dinner in a Michelin restaurant
    Cocktail at a hip bar
75 cl bottle of Moet & Chandon
Buying price for a condo in the city centre
Men's haircut in the business district
    Big Mac
    Starbucks Latte
Gym membership in the business district
    Cleaning help per hour

FYI~ Goto Amazon, purchase a copy of the book "Money Number One", by A.B. Thistlewaite. Read it (thoroughly), believe it, and live by it. Then your farang life will be a true "walk through the LOS park.

Otherwise,.......... you'll be setting yourself-up, to be taught some very bitter, historically farang lessons.

I was comparing the pollution today in Shanghai to Bangkok's.. 122 AQI (which is low for Shanghai) and 27 for Bangkok. I think the pollution won't be much of a problem for me after what I've experienced in China.. but yes, I realize it is getting worse in Bangkok.

I've come to the odd conclusion that you must be the author of this obscure [and mostly mythological] edition, as you've noted the tome numerous instances already.
    Clever round about promotion, A.B.....

Writings of such sort are usually based upon very limited exposure and experience [broader sense] and more on fancied cultural stereotype.
Those with real connected tissue might always suspect such grandiose and false literary makings.

    As in: Full-o-shit.
