The good thing about shit, useless threads like this is that invariably they end up in the doghouse where they belong.

the solution is very easy, and here is the solution for those who don't need screenshots (like Harry):

    1. Go to Control Panel, switch to "Classic View" and in the "Programs ..." section, select the line with "Windows 10 Update Assistant" and right-click "Uninstall"
    2. Go to "Administrative and Tools" section, and select "Services", find "Windows Update", click on "Properties" and select "Disabled" for Startup mode, and click also on the "Stop" button

You would think this is enough, but no, the little Indian fookers knew smart arses could disable their shit program, so added a few script to make sure you couldn't disable the whole thing, so here we go:

    3. Go to "Administrative and Tools" section, select "Scheduler", and then click on the "Microsoft" folder in the left, there find the folder "Windows Update", and click on it. On the tasks panel you will see all kinds of scripts there for Windows Update. Right click on everyone of them, and select "stop" or "disable"

and bye bye Windows 10 Update forever

also noticed my PC running much faster, booting much faster etc... since the Indian fools would download shit in the background all the time, slowing down your porn video and everything on the fooking internet. Same same with boot process, no more 15min shutdown with "Wait while we configure Windows"

Next, I will make a few screenshots for those who are too challenged with MS navigation and Standard MO
Disabling updates via services is well documented, on the MSN Win 10 web pages. I know cuz I googled it after the first update fiasco after it was released.

For those of you who don't get all tearful and pouty about your PC updating while you sleep, here are the new features due for release in the first week of May.

disabling Windows Update through services has been documented since Win2000, but that's not the point

the little Indian fookers, heroes for our resident Harry, have managed to re-enable Windows Update service everytime you disable it

For the non technical a passive update seems ideal.
I can understand for those with ltd bandwidth or running a critical business you wish to control the time, for us in the beer o'clock mode not having to think about the inside workings of technology is a distinct benefit, I live in the sticks of a 3rd world country and seems to take care of itself in minutes.

Tampering with security or the registry may be fun for pros but I can see no advantage

If anyone can recommend a superior set up for home user please do, Linux looks good but many programs esp Word etc are required by external contacts.

I did have a macbook but as nearest support a long way from here have gone for simple windows 10 laptop problem free so far
I used to have a job at a calendar factory.

Linux has Libre office which is compatible with MS Word.

Also easy to dual install a laptop with Linux and Win 7, in case you want a Windows back up.

Windows has been hacked by a Belgian invertebrate.

He was annoyed because he ended up in a boiler room with a load of bottomless buckets.

Windows update is a necessary evil, every OS does it, it's simply that because Microsoft is the biggest target they are having to respond to hackers a lot more than the rest.

Having said that, they generally do security updates once a month, and a feature update twice a year.

You can delay those by selecting your working hours, or even schedule it to kick off at 4am or whatever suits you.

Patches are there for a reason. Wannacry encrypted thousands of PC's mainly because of fools who listen to the advice of morons like the one that posted this inane thread.

It's a necessary evil for all the hidden parameters Microsoft has there for enterprise environments; home users should never have to touch. The ones that do invariably fuck up their PCs and then try and blame Microsoft for it.

Windows; there is no app ecosystem that size.

Unless you're just surfing, downloading and maybe working on Word docs with little complex formatting, there is no value in Linux; not to mention that its hardware support is still generally shit compared to Windows.

Having said that, given the above criteria, it is a nice way to extend the life of older hardware.

I have never met Harry so didn't know if he s of Indian extraction or Cowboy for that matter.

If he is not seems like a strange assertion, if he is what is the problem , are you racist towards Indians?

I think for the non technical all banter aside insulting other member in humourless way is unproductive.

What seems odd to me is we can all have opinions re price quality , experience but some to seem to argue about facts. I am not competent to decide but members here who claim expertise seem to disagree

Oh is Buttplug still trotting out that nonsense?

I wouldn't worry about it, it's what he does when he realises he's out of his depth - which is all the time.

Agreed, one should get some humor back in the all banter non-technical side of insulting other members.

    Let's get the P back in productivity/prostate.

I have rug from my wigwam and a bonfire if I wish t call Indians or squaws.

I can make/eat a Philly sandwich or Belgian Waffle , but are you opposed to Indians or just those you disparage or disagree with ? I am unclear how this helps improve telecommunicable Asians

The irony of Buttplug's pathetic attempt at trolling is that you'd probably get more sense out of an indian call center than you would reading his rubbish.
