    Songkran Photos 2018

Would be interesting to see some member's Songkran pics, a bit of colour, or a front door locked from the inside and blocked off with boxes of beer.

I typically do one day out, one day playing locally for a few hours, then the rest locked away in sweet, precious, subzero air-con and silence.

    Lifeguard duty was okay.

Tiz a good opportunity to have the windows washed.

Would be interesting to see pics of what others are seeing during this time of colour, water, alcohol and road massacres.

I went to Safari World today....at some point I'll do a thread.

I was honestly whelmed by the experience, it wasn't bad at all and my wife's family visiting from the PI found it utterly entertaining.

Cool. Visiting family are always impressed with the hands on approach to zoos here. Workers going around throwing snakes onto people and having tropical birds fly down and nick people's hats, that kinda thing.

^^ Very nice, cheers Chitty. Was hoping to see some action from places other than Thailand. Interesting to see the sign post in Thai.

    Cheers.

Myanmar new year (Thingyan) falls on the same dates as Songran.

I flew back to Naypyitaw on Thursday evening - there were only 5 passengers on the plane.

    Songkran Photos 2018-empty-jpg

One of the few passengers was a Nigerian in a red tracksuit who was going to visit his brother who does 'some business' in Naypyitaw. He had absolutely no luggage and only a mobile phone number to call when he arrived. He kept telling me that he was travelling to 'Miami'!!

When we landed at the modern airport (which has 8 gantries, but I've never seen them used), the airport staff told me that the airport at this capital city of Myanmar would now be shut for 4 days of holiday!

Oh, the last I saw of the Nigerian was at the airport where he was being grilled by the immigration staff.

On Friday morning, I needed to get some supplies, fresh food etc. I rode my motorbike along the main road that runs through the city, with the intention of going to one of the only two supermarkets in town, (which are located next to each other).

However as I approached the supermarkets, the main road itself was shut off with barriers, with a large stage built by the road and a live concert in progress, (aired on Myanmar TV).So I made a short detour on a back road to approach the supermarket from a different direction.

Well, I got to the supermarket, only to find it closed, as was the alternative supermarket located nearby. Apparently, both supermarkets (and the restaurants located in the same building) would stay closed until Tuesday! There was literally no place to buy decent food (I can't stomach the Burmese street food, total pig swill).

So for the past few days, I have been stuck at my hotel, having to eat expensive, bland and rather unhealthy hotel food, (not the fresh salads and fruit that I prefer). The only good point is that the hotel seems to have plenty of Myanmar beer in stock.

I'll remember this experience for next year, and will either buy in 4 days of food for this holiday, or stay in Thailand, or maybe go to Ngapali Beach instead.

Oh, during my forced sejourn at my hotel, I have used the time to 'pimp' my dirt-bike with accessories that I bought on Lazada and collected when I was in Bangkok. Now my motorbike has been transformed from a grubby, macho sort of bike into a 'Golden Man of Pattaya' bike, with windscreen, flashing lights, orange spoke covers, waterproof MP3 player and a large Union Jack atop the new and massive top box

Edited 'cos TD software fcuked up my new paragraph formatting.
