Yep, keeping busy is the go. Have you developed a new hobby or pastime ? The new enthusiasm for that will certainly keep you busy.

He might as well be coming of heroin. Do you think that would be any easier?
Heroin isn't as bad for one as tobacco.
Have you ever given up either?
Those urges only last a few moments chitty and they get easier to ignore.
When they come just think of something else immediately and it goes away immediately.

Obviously I mentioned it because of the difficulty involved in giving it up.

i call bullshit on that, you’ve no doubt forgot being it was 12 years ago or you’re just trying to get one over on Chitty who you don’t get on with?

i have never touched heroin so won’t try and guess if it’s worse than giving up tabs but I know people who have tried both and say cigarettes were harder to give up.

its pretty clear they’re both hard to come off.

For you to state you were over them in a week marks you down as being full of shit IMHO...... go on tell us it was your first attempt at giving them up too

Nicotine is as addictive as heroin etc., and one should expect life with no chance of parole if you invented cigarettes today. Kudos to those that gave up and stay clean!

Difficult weekend with a few triggers.

It is getting easier, don't think about them as much.

Dill...that Allan Carr book just worked a treat on me.

Wait a decade and you might be most mystified by why you first thought it was so difficult.

Yes, the fact that I've concluded ccc is a dimwitted arsehole may have been an influence.

    Why?

Coming off heroin is easy. Staying off is another matter.

How long were you addicted to heroin? Have you ever taken it?

I just can't picture an English teacher called Cyrille searching for his mainline.

Yeah, I use that word so often, don't I.

Do you have even two examples?

Some just cannot leave the fags alone, a puff a drag .

I can understand if Dr partner or wallet objects but if you live in the Gulf or Bangkok, C Mai fags will be just a top up

Endless repetition can get dull, agreed.

Especially of things that aren't backed up.

You have no idea of how boring I find you.

It's why I respond to you so rarely.

    You know about subjectivity, right?

Like I said, neither of us are even remotely interested in each other.

We're not on the same wavelength.

Credit to both of us: unlike buriramboy this isn't the material for 70% of our posts.

We both must be short of stimuli to even be responding to each other, I guess.

    I just think you're a wanker.

    I know you don't care.

cyrille: you're a wanker to 1/3 to 1/2 of the regular posters on td.

for some reason you think you're entitled to be a wanker as 1/3 to 1/2 of td's posters are morons who shouldn't even post here and td would be better if it was just you and ant playing patty cake with each other and a few others to talk about movies and cricket with.

Same with ciggies. Quitting is piss-pot easy and I've quit hundreds of times.
Not starting again is the hard part.

The longest I've been off ciggies was for 10 months. No withdrawal symptoms that I recall. And, I didn't even intend to stop either.
I only started again when I came back to Thailand because they're so cheap here, and I had it in my head that I'd given them up once
and could easily do it again.
    That was 27 years ago.

Seriously, I can't recall any. I'd been given a carton of duty-free Peter Stuvesants with charcoal filters and figured I'd save money smoking them instead
of buying my usual menthol brand. After 3 days I'd only smoked half a pack because they were absolutely foul, and because I'd gone longer and longer in between
ciggies I found that I'd actually weaned myself off them. It was probably made easier because all my adult life I've been only a half a pack a day smoker.

I brought back to Thailand the remaining 9 packs of Stuyvesants and gave them to my FIL. Even he didn't like them and had to break off the filters to smoke them.

Been craving one for the past two hours, even stopped off and bought a packet.

Not opened it or had one though.
This last week would have been a waste of time and pain if I start up again now.
I've only got four more shifts then it's off on holiday with the kids for two weeks exploring the great outdoors of deepest darkest Wales, I definitely don't won't to be sneaking of for sly cigs and coming back stinking of smoke.
Stood next to someone today who was a smoker and they stunk!!!
