Do you monitor your Thai bank account?

Thankfully SCB send an email whenever I log in, so I would know if something is afoot (and I don't have an ATM card on my accounts).

    But this poor fella....

Do you monitor your Thai bank account?-c1_1421187_180302160352_620x413-jpg

PATTAYA: A Swedish man filed a complaint with local police on Friday, seeking an investigation into the loss of about 100,000 baht from his bank account left unattended for over a year.

Henrik Christian Koch, 49, told Pattaya police that he opened his bank account with Bangkok Bank's branch at the CentralFestival Pattaya Beach shopping centre on Dec 29, 2016 and deposited 500 baht then.

He later deposited more money until it reached about 100,000 baht. Afterwards, he returned to work in his homeland for about a year.

On his return to Pattaya on vacation, he updated his passbook and found that 1.38 baht remained.

Bank staff checked transactions through the account and found that the user of phone number 098-9301045 applied for internet banking services and withdrew money from the account twice on March 12, 2017. The first withdrawal was 90,000 baht and the second 9,900 baht, Mr Koch said.

He said when he asked the bank to take responsibility, the staff told him to file a complaint with police and gave him no further advice.

He insisted that he did not make any withdrawal or ask anyone to do it.

^ his is dill, here is the follow up story.
A Swedish man in Pattaya who claimed his bank account had been emptied of 100,000 baht has previous for drugs and weapons offences, as well as trying to bribe police.
Henrik Christian Koch, 49, filed a complaint with Pattaya police on Friday after discovering money had been withdrawn from his Bangkok Bank account at the Central Festival Pattaya Beach without his knowledge.
Koch told police how he left 100,000 baht in the account before returning to work in his homeland for more than a year.
He said he didn’t touch the account but after recently returning to Thailand he attempted to make a withdrawal only to discover that 1.38 baht remained in his account.
An investigation by staff at the branch found that the withdrawals had been made via internet banking, with one withdrawal totalling 90,000 baht and another 9,900 baht.
Koch said he didn’t make the withdrawals nor asked anyone to make them on his behalf.
Investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
However, this isn’t the first time Henrik Koch has had dealings with police in Pattaya.
In 2010, Koch was arrested as police carried out an extensive drugs crackdown in the notorious Walking Street area of the city.
Koch was arrested for possession of class 1 restricted drugs.
A search of his room at the Four Season Hotel on Pattaya’s Third Road found a haul of ice, yaba, cocaine and ecstasy along with his drug using girlfriend. Police also found a .38 calibre pistol with 9 rounds of ammunition.
    But that wasn’t all.
Koch also allegedly tried to offer a one million baht bribe to Pattaya police in order to avoid the drug charges.
Police charged Koch and his girlfriend with possession of an unregistered firearm, multiple charges for possession and distribution of class 1 drugs and attempting to bribe a police officer.
Police said that Koch was part of a transnational drug syndicate involved in the supply and distribution of drugs in Pattaya.
It is not known if Koch was ever jailed for the 2010 offences.
It is also not known that given the extensive and serious charges against him, why Koch was allowed to return to Thailand.

...in addition to receiving email alerts, I check my BBank accounts 2-3 times a week and carefully monitor credit charge usage: not to do so would be foolhardy in this day and aging one...

On my account, I get a SMS to my phone the instant there's a withdrawal or credit to my account. If I'm using an ATM, the SMS arrives as quickly as the money coming out.

    absolutely delegate to the motivated.
Ive been with TMB KK SCB and Bangkok Bank and have to say SCB has the worst customer service but the most luxurious office where locals suck free sweet sweets in the aircon and watch tv mostly, the security man looks like he couldn't catch a 3 legged sloth, but the extremely attractive ladies somehow assuage me , but don't teller indoors.
My main reason is they do a Mastercard which is handy in Indo where Visa seems to be seen as a zionist leper.

I get great service out of the CM SCB, although sometimes I have to help them with their own procedures manual, but it's not for the want of trying.

The one thing that does surprise me is that out of the three of my banks, only one requires more than a username and password to log in.

I log on to my bank account with a 5 digit pin on my phone, need that fucking annoying pin sentry thing for my laptop though, guess secure though unless someone nicks my phone and beats the passcode/pin out of me.

    It concerns me.

An SMS or e-mail that money has been taken out of my account does not impress me as much as it seems to impress others. For my two accounts outside Thailand it's necessary to use a PIN sent to my phone.

This prevents unauthorised withdrawals from my account rather that just telling me one has been made.

I left 500 baht in the Samui branch of SCB back in 2004, will it still be there? I've no idea how to get an English language online bank account. I forget how many times I've needed that money . Joking apart, I'm quite sure its gone though.

    Never any problems.

Just pull it out and waft it in their faces as I peel one off or two, depending on the price.

Sometimes I'll shout " loadsamoney" as I'm performing the task, made me very popular in Thailand.

In the UK they just think you're a pends.

Actually SCB. M'Sahib and I have individual accounts with them, plus a joint account. If I'm buying something online, the norm is that I'll get a OTPN clearance, with the relevant number through my phone to authorise. Works well, with follow up texts and balance statements etc.

I had a supposedly valid Bangkok Bank account and visa card from 2010.
The card said valid till 2018, had a small amount of money in the account.

Went back last August to pay some money in and they had no record of my account, the teller just gave the card a blank look.
I asked the manager and he said we can open a new account like he was doing me a favour, still didn't explain to me why my bank account had dissappeared, yet I had a valid bank card.
