    The Aging Process

Since I moved into this apartment with a big bathroom mirror and a bedroom with an even bigger full length mirror, I have become quite alarmed by the dilapidated state of my corpse like form.
l knew I could do with losing a few kilos in the gut area due to my fondness for good grub and a few vodkas, but the devastating form that greeted my naked person fresh out of the shower left me reeling in shock.
My gut is the only place where the skin fits. Everywhere else looks like baggy pipe cleaners.

Hence my recent workout routine. The only problem is, I keep nodding off in the afternoons and canít sleep properly at night.
How did I get like this?
Easy, just bone idle laziness. Let this be a warning to all coffin dodgers out there. The solution is hard work and considerable discomfort.

^^yes, it really is. Take it baby steps.

Cut down on the alcohol first. Try to go to bed earlier, and not sleep in the afternoons. If you sleep in the afternoons, you will definitely have trouble sleeping at night. Cut out alcohol and caffeine. Just small steps. Up your cardio routine.. bike more, walk more and you'll have more energy overall.

If you have time, perhaps exercising twice a day would help accommodate the sleep situation (5am and 5pm?).

Hey at least you're being honest with yourself and recognized there is room for improvement. That's the first step.

If you have access to a fitness center it is easy to track progress and set goals. Just try to get the heart rate up incrementally without killing yourself. Over time it will get easer to do longer runs. Elliptical machines are great if you have bad knees. I have a blood pressure reading device and have kept records back a few years as a gauge to heart health.

Belive it or not I'm fairly stable. Yes, despite my abuses. Hey, at least physically anyway. But have noted alcohol consumption will raise my heart rate.

Luckily I'm not retired with nothing to do. I've learned I'm a workaholic and when not working I do tend to binge. I'm working on this and will make the adjustments before I expire or retire, I hope.

Too many folks are complacent and take the easy road only to look back and realize they are not where they want to be in life.

Shoot, that sounds like a TD famous quote but it is no joke.

I also take time to reflect on past achievements as milestones in my life. You know like you never thought you'd make it through your twenties alive.

Just think of all the rock stars that have fallen before you and you may feel just a little bit blesses or "lucky" or something but remember living well is no accident. It's all about choices and tradeoffs.

Good luck with it, you've taken the right step.

Oh, and believe it or not the fish does yoga and stretching exercises. Core training that you can do anywhere without the fancy equipment. You can call me a pussy just not to my face. Maybe in another thirty or fourty years, I hope. Then I'll just shake a stick at the whippersnappers, ha ha.

My two bits for what it's worth.

I see you are looking at the how long will you live for thread Switch.

I suggest you think more positively, keep up your exercise routine and do things that make you happy about yourself like setting out a manageable daily target and achieving it.

Almost every day I set about achieving something and if I achieve the task I sleep a lot better.

    Good luck with it.

Sounds like LaTony Robbins. Great stuff there. Dopamine, more than one way to score it.

I was going to say, dopamine it's not just for Jeff anymore.

Just joking Jeff. Hey, reminds me I used to sell vacuums door-to-door.

    David44....rush me dopamine.

Go vegan for a month and workout a couple of hours a day even if it's walking or swimming.

Take a full length pic of yourself now and again in a month to compare the difference .

Being a vegan won't help the fat bstard, he'll just starve himself to death and pop his yorkshire clogs.

My mrs sleeps in the afternoon then cannot get sleep at night. When I pointed out the sleeping in the afternoon she claims that is snoozing and not the same as sleep, so will does affect proper sleep at bed time

With this answer, perhaps you really are. I was trying to be helpful, maybe I'll think twice next time.

Baby steps, doesn't mean you are a baby. It means to make a small change to begin with and then little changes on a regular basis until you reach where you want to be. I do not talk to my five year olds that way as I do not teach that age group.

It's puzzling that you feel qualified to patronise people though, since the camera has shown you've been obese or close to it for at least a decade.

You post advice as if I have not had any cogent thoughts on the issue!

Of course I have considered cause and effect. You presume that simple solutions are the answer. I’m not asking for advice dear. I have a plan based on my needs and circumstances, and it’s working.

The point is, it’s quite easy to drift into a state where you are in need of a remedy. This thread is a warning to the louche and complacent, like Chico and Flake, even you, if you are not careful.

Besides all that, I’m older than you and I have more insurance.

No, it sounded to me like you were kind of asking for advice when you said that you had trouble sleeping and that you ate and drank too much. Perhaps you were just blowing off steam, but you were talking abou the aging process. I took it like you may need a bit of advice. Baby steps are not cause and effect exactly. They are about making small changes to help you sleep better or cut back on alcohol/food. One small step at a time is what I was saying.

When you make a post as you do, it certainly looks like you are asking for advice. My solutions are not simple, but are proven to work for many people instead of just going cold turkey for instance. Not sleeping at night may be from the alcohol and the afternoon napping is all I am saying. Maybe you know it, maybe you don't. Your post looked like you wanted some advice.. sorry if I misread it.
