Yep, they're not up to Hendon Council Ordinance directive #452/1 here, generally speaking.Originally Posted by keda

Disagree. Not everyone who rents a bike here on holiday ends up in the hospital, that's silly. Conditions here are hazardous, but caution and commons sense prevails. How much you wanna bet that the majority of farangs who crash bikes have had too much to drink?
I had zero experience riding motorcycles before coming to Thailand. Rented step thrus on my first 2 trips here as a tourist, never had a problem.
When I moved here for good I bought a Phantom, which I've driven all over the place, including some long cross country trips. Learned by doing - riding is the only way to see Thailand IMO. Just be super-fricken careful.

Why does there appear to be a fixation over here regarding the size of your motorbike? Two of my friends' ego's are pretty fukin shattered cos their 900 whatevers shattered their spinal cords.
^^ So true, it is not size that matters it is how you use it.
So I'm told, but most girls prefer mine to be bigger than smaller, and I like a bike that is comfortable, as I'm 187 cm, that means something like a 125 Honda just about does it.

(Something that I was in the habit of doing back in the UK with the local vicar, but apparently it's a bit of a no-no over here).
