Name and Shame - good or bad?

I realise the South West is the land of old curtain twitchers and senile snitches, but what do you think of this?

What's your point? Everyone will appear in the local press for whatever crime when they go to court.

In this case it's a good thing, drunk drivers are a danger to others. It does go too far though, most local papers in the UK report every case that goes through the local courts and I don't think there's any need for them to publicise the names of fare dodgers and people who don't pay their TV licence. Drunk drivers are fair game though, scum.

And what of those good citizens that insist on driving while engaged and distracted on their assorted gadgetry?

Almost as irresponsible and dangerously equal to driving pissed. And yet, still quite accepted.

That's illegal in the UK too and those convicted also have their names published in the papers.

It's Devon. Most of these people will have been caught the morning after on a 6-8am road black. There are no rural police any more, and no cops stopping drunks at night time. They are only posting this to make people think there are.

I tell you what I think, that's a horrible format for an online newspaper but many local web-based rags have that same format. The sooner they change it the better, so long as the next one is better than that. The last one was shite but this one is the worst so far.

6 points on your licence and a fine for using a mobile phone while driving in the UK. 12 points and a ban or 6 points within first 2 years of getting your licence. So not acceptable to use phone while driving while you still see people using them it's rare compared to the norm it used to be plus most people have hands free connections in their tin boxes these days.

It is a corporate giant Trinity Mirror Group taking over all local news papers. They are being swallowed up or driven off the net by the mainstream media company. THere is NO ROOM for local journalism these days.

Yes, although it's probably urban compared to the wilds of Mummerzet - as the police operation in question was in urban areas (you did read it all before you posted, right, and watched the video?) I don't see what that's got to do with it.

^^^No money in local rags these days, no one buys them and the free ones struggle to get enough advertising to cover costs. Shame but printed news is a dying format more so at a local level.

It used to be the norm 20 years ago.

I remember driving the old man back from the pub at age 12 with two hitch hiking nuns in the back.
Ended up putting the triumph herald into a ditch and walking across the fields to bed.
Left the old man and the praying nuns upside down in the ditch.
Bstard thought it was well funny the next day after he'd had a few liveners.

There are still four or five around here but the news is basically just a 5 page supplement to 40 pages of estate agent ads

Balls; you probably think Croydon is rural.

Anyway. NOTHING in the article about if being an urban area. Nothing to say it was night time and the "video" is a slide show of bollocks and says nowt either.

Not any more. You probably sold it to the Nazis telling them it was "rural".

The online presence of many local rags is akin to the Pattaya rags these days as in just people getting arrested for whatever crime that may arouse some interest.
