    Stupid PPI

So when I moved back to the land of the shitty arse, I became aware of, mostly through the BBC "comedy" panel shows that there was this thing called PPI. Of course, BBC (international major advertiser being HSBC) go to great lengths to make it look stupid, and anyone thinking about trying to reclaim it is an arsehole. So I largely ignored it, and thought nothing about it until I had lunch with my cousin in October. One of the first things she said was

"have you done the PPI thing yet"?
"No, dont be silly. Why would I bother with that" I replied, feeling all smug like the hsBBC suggests i should,
"I've got 13k already from it. Other cousin is up to 15K"
    "Jing Lor?"
    "What does that mean?"
    "Mai khao jai"
    "What does that mean?"
    "I don't know"
"So why did you say it then?"

but some time later we got back on track. Still thinking it was a load of BS, after all, that gurning smug fuck hugh punt (I bet harryarsehat looks like him) wouldn't do me wrong I thought, I listened more but not that interested because I never bothered with PPI anyway. Or so I thought.

How wrong I was. Just received my payout from HSBC on a loan took out 12 years ago. They have also fessed up to applying it to 2 credit cards and as well and are about to settle that. MBNA coughed up 3.5k in about 7 weeks. So far I am up to 14k and more to come... for nothing. But thats not all. My dad died 20 years ago. Claiming for him as well. Al his mortgages, credits cards, the lot. All I did was give my list of UK addresses and the names of the institutions I had CCs, loans etc from and the cash keeps dropping through.

So if you are British, have ever in the last 60 years had a loan, credit card, store card, mortgage, ANYTHING.... do it. Don't have to do anything and the money flows in.

Fuck the bankers. Fuck the BBC.

Just find any of these specialists doing it, haggle their commission, and get going.

Woohooo...Lulu is going to be rich.

Fkuk knows what it's about...I'm guessing some sort of rip-off by banks and they now have to pay it back?

What a stupid post by one of the resident morons.

1 - what choice does anyone have? None.
2 - it was a con from them.

why is it being a leech? claiming back money fraudulently taken from you? You'd have to be a prize wanker not to, or make that comment. Get back to your cashiers neighbours with your laos khao you fool.

They really gave that PPI the hard sell back in the day.
The government made the banks set aside billions for compensation claims.

most of the ones i had were on credit cards I got as a student! PPI doesn't cover student FFS. Morgan Stanley I specifically said NO I don't want that. They did it anyway.

Well, this sounds interesting. I had various loans when I still lived in the UK, from RBS, MBNA, Barclaycard etc. I even went so far as to pay out thousands of pounds for redundancy insurance, which would pay off all my loans if my self-employed business failed.

When that business failed (a rare occurrence for me!), and I claimed on my redundancy insurance, the insurance company told me to stick my claim up my backside....

I shall definitely look further into this. But what are the grounds for making the lenders pay out compensation? Interest rate was too high? Mis-sell of policy??

It is likely you were mis-sold PPI if you experienced any of the following:

    • you were pressured into buying PPI or told you must have PPI
    • you were promised a cheaper rate if you bought PPI
    • you were told your loan or credit application was more likely to be accepted if you bought PPI
    • PPI was added without telling you
    • you were advised to buy PPI that did not suit your circumstances or needs
    • you were self-employed, unemployed or retired but advised to buy PPI
    • you had a pre-existing medical condition at the time of buying PPI, which may have affected your ability to make an insurance claim
    • you were advised that a pre-existing medical condition was included in your PPI policy (or advised that it wasn’t included)
    • it was not made clear that you would pay interest on the PPI if it was added to your loan
    • it was not made clear that the PPI would end before the loan or credit was repaid

We need similar in the US. I'd wager the same practices happen here.

mis sold is the usual one. Not making it clear they were selling you something. Usually they just added it onto loans etc without telling you.

Get a company to represent you Simon asap.

You'll be quids in, as all this money is sitting there specifically to be claimed by customers who were ripped off by shyster banks.

even that daft cvnt tax probably is owed a load, but true to BBC form, has been conned into thinking that claiming money stolen from you back is a bad thing. What a dick.

Anyone else got any back yet?

Check your bank's website. They usually have an application page, and they are obliged to respond to you within 8 weeks.

They will send you forms asking for additional information if you have it, but the onus is still on them to do the leg work.

If that was the case, the Republicans would have passed a law saying it was legal by now, so you're fucked.

The banks still managed to get the government to back off though.

They have no obligation to go and find out and tell you, you have to apply and they try and make it complicated to the great unwashed.

That's how these third party companies have made a mint doing for people what they should be doing themselves.

So the 3rd party companies, for "their help," get a percentage of what the punter is owed through a PPI claim?

    Yes

I weighed up the cost of them taking a slice verses the times it takes if you have no paper work. Submit subject access request to see if had, 8 weeks, and a load of pissing about. You can do it yourself but as I was not sure and no time to waste, just let them do it. Anything I get is a bonus as far as I am concerned. Might even be able to afford to buy a hovel next door to taxexile.

Looks like you need a UK address to receive the application form..

I could set up a mailbox in the UK.

This is all going back many years, but for sure I recall that I felt that I had been completely shafted by the loan companies at the time. But I couldn't do anything (me vs big business etc).

I have nothing to lose - I hope the amount of information/docs needed to make a case is not excessive. But presumably, they check their database for my name/address/DoB etc and can see the details of the loan and whether PPI was included.

call one up. 01489 660300 Fairtrade Practice is the one I use, and ask them. I supplied ZERo docs. Nothing. Not even an account number. Just finance company names, addresses I stayed at. That is pretty much it.

    OK, I found this company:

    http://www.ppiadvice.uk.com

who handle claims for expats living outside the UK. I just completed the online questionnaire and have received the pre-populated application forms in my email already. I just need to fill them out, sign them and post them back to the UK.

The Myanmar post office service sucks, but luckily I'll be in BKK to get a new visa in a week or so.

    Nothing to lose...
