^^ Will be about as successful as your Dry July and Sober October I reckon.
Still waiting to move down by the beach, prolly gonna be in 15 months time now due to the kid's schooling. Off to the beach for a morning swim every morning after her school run.
It's gonna be so good and healthy that there's no need for me to do anything healthy now.
Yeah, straight from the 8am morning swim to the 11am barstool.
Ham radio (amateur radio). A somewhat old-fashioned hobby in this Facebook/smartphone age. I'm a techie by career, and like designing low-power radio comms equipment for post-disaster use.Simon - what do you have to do to get your radio license?
There are 1.3 million hams in Japan, 632,000 in the USA
Stats website here How many hams?
How many radio hams in Myanmar? Precisely fcuking zero, because Myanmar is one of only 2 countries in the world to ban ham radio (the other is North Korea..).
Myanmar banned ham radio in 1962 (ethnic insurgents used radio broadcasts to encourage popular dissent against the government of the day). Time has moved on 55 years, but the government never repealed the law, even though Facebook and internet are the current weapons of choice for dissenting voices.
One reason why I actually relocated to Myanmar in 2012 was to campaign for the repeal of this law, and for the government to give me a ham licence, so that I could legally develop/test my radio gear.
Fast-forward to 2018, and I'm still waiting, but making slow but positive progress. The government issued me with a permit to import my ham transceiver, but not yet to use it! It is sitting in my room, with antenna, all ready to go.
Anyway, that's a long explanation of my NYR..
Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile
^^^ What is that red stuff? lol
^Well good luck with it. Hopefully you get the go ahead soon. Geez..never give up on yer dreams, eh.
Typical pb.
Expresses interest...gets an answer...meets it with withering disdain.
^Yeah, what a pest. I didn't mean it sarcastically at all. I just really meant that he has been through a lot and not to give up on his dreams. Thanks Chitty. Sybil needs to stay out of my face because he just starts shit up, rather than answering the question of the thread to begin with.
You can be as sarcastic as you want, because I'll be the first to agree with you that ham radio sounds as tedious and as boring as a very tedious, boring thing...I didn't mean it sarcastically at all.
I rarely use it to chat with other hams, because they mostly seem incapable of normal conversation, and I tend to fall asleep after 30 seconds.
But I do use it as a legal means to develop and test radio emergency comms gear - without a ham licence, I'm liable to be arrested for breaking the law.
Most countries understand that particular benefit of ham radio (many hams helped out in Puerto Rico and southern USA after the hurricanes wiped out normal radio comms, by setting up emergency comms systems etc). Myanmar and North Korea worry more about Mr local guy using transmitters for some nefarious purpose.
But it's like gun legislation. Just because a criminal doesn't have a gun licence doesn't stop him from shooting people.
^It all seems quite technical rather than boring. I'm not an overly technical person, but hopefully it works out for you.
Ultra marathons, starting with a 60k in April.
I would desperately like to follow in somtamslaps and Chitty by getting some cycling done. This is very much dependent on the weather, firstly, and an absence of gout related impairments.
Need to cut the booze out-or seriously reduce my imbibing quantities.
That'll be an achievement .
I stopped going to the gym because it was a little expensive on my meagre salary, but I also cycle every day and have lost 10 Kg over the past 12 months. So I'm happy with my current level of fitness/health.
In April, the local police in Naypyidaw have finally agreed to let me move from my hotel to rent a private house (they are still suspicious of whiteys in this town, especially old men who like to caress young lady's thighs at any opportunity).
Once in my house, I'll fix up a pull-up/chin-up bar in a doorway, maybe splash out on a running machine and jog naked while my cleaning lady does her work..

Fok all really as I don't need a new year to get shit dialed in.
Maybe stop being a good guy on here and get a tad more edgy in my posting.
That's awesome, SS and Yortyjam. Good onya as they say! Sounds like a challenge!
^^Yeah, booze is a killer for sure. I'm going to lay off at least to my next big holiday in June.
^hehe... I'll believe that, when I see it!
I've decided to stop supplementing my income by putting on "black face" to avoid embarrassing encounters with TD "members" via Craigslist.
