Have you ever stayed at The Atlanta hotel (BKK)?

Since I'm a tight-fisted single guy, when I visit BKK I usually stay in budget hotels on lower Sukhumvit. The Nana Hotel is too opulent for me

I have previously stayed a few times at the Miami Hotel, which is fine and meets my needs.

I used to stay at an old hotel opposite Soi 20, now called RetrOasis, can't remember the name of that place, but it has a dirty swimming pool and plenty of noisy hookers.

The Atlanta's web-site intrigues me, sounds an interesting sort of place. I conduct my sordid sexual liaisons off-site, so their rules about bringing hookers back to the hotel doesn't faze me.

Has anyone stayed at this place? Who are the owners?

Getting things the wrong way round like that can definitely be bad for business.

I once went to meet a friend in the lobby of the Atlanta prior to a night out. My friends verdict...for what it was it was overpriced.

One of those places where the cheap rates once made the failings bearable...the failings remained but it wasn't all that cheap anymore.

Kind of a hotel version of 'cheap charlies' bar.

A very weird place indeed and not one I would be staying in. The current owner Charles Henn seems to have a huge chip on his shoulder and makes the hotel sound as welcoming as the Westboro Baptist Church to gays.

The Atlanta does not welcome SEX TOURISTS, and does not try to be polite about it.

Borderline cases are not given the benefit of the doubt, but are treated as sex tourists.

Those who are borderline cases should stay elsewhere.

Guests who attempt to bring in bargirls, catamites and their like will be told in plain language to settle their bills and leave.

Remaining on the premises after being told to leave will be treated as a police matter.

The Atlanta does not ask for or listen to explanations or excuses, and does not apologise for the manner in which miscreants are thrown out.

The Atlanta also does not apologise for any mistakes it may be accused of having made with regard to the identification of sex tourists.

Theyve done a great job renovating Regency on soi 22 now called Check Inn. Great prices with Jap toilets to boot

The details on their web-site (I've known about their rules for yonks, so they don't come as a shock to me), makes me want to stay there even more! (At least for one night).

I'm sure the reception staff must have their fair share of juicy stories about throwing out catamites, sodamites, borderline sex-tourists and those with noisy kids.

Checking on their web-site home page, I wonder if I would be allowed to bring a bar-girl AND a terrapin back to the hotel.

How many terrapins cancel out 1 bar-girl?

An early 1950s portrait of Dr Max Henn, a chemical engineer from Berlin, who founded The Atlanta Chemical Company which eventually became The Atlanta Hotel.

Probably an escaped Nazi involved in the WWII production of nerve gasses used in the Holocaust.

Which might explain the hotel's misanthropic attitude to guests and people in general.

I ve stayed there a couple of times, my office was on soi 2 so if working late was a good choice. its definitely idiosyncratic
the hotel diner is good and cheap, the staff look like they've been there since the 60's
the ground floor is stunning but the rest us a bit shit
well worth a 1 night stay for about 750 if youre not planning on banging ladyboys etc. that night

Yes, and that's the main attraction. Stayed there years ago, the 50s deco was a definite plus, but the rooms appeared not to have been modernised since.
The king's jazz compositions (influenced by 50s BeBop) were played at lunch time in the cafeteria/restaurant. A quiet place off the busy Suk.

I'd recommend it for a couple of days, it has curiousity value.

You know why this dick who owns the places has all these rules? Only allowed in basically if you have booked and paid to stay there? Even to the restaurant? Because otherwise no one would stay in his shit house hotel. The rooms are no better than what I imagine khosan rd doss houses are like
