Military parade continues despite Pattaya floods

Heavy rain in Pattaya failed to stop the military parade along the Pattaya beach road held Sunday afternoon as part of the International Fleet Review 2017 to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of Asean.
Heavy rain preceded the parade and flooded the Pattaya beach road. But after the rain stopped, the parade which involved military personnel from countries participating in the fleet review commenced in the company of the Royal Thai Navy marching band on the flooded beach road from Tawanna night plaza to Pattaya 8 school.
Prior to the parade, several activities were held, including parachuting with parachuters carrying the national flags of 10 Asean countries, the Asean flag and the RTN flag and demonstration of sea rescue operations.

    The irony.
    Funny pic.
Any self respecting sailor would have folded up his bell bottom pants first.
Just like they had to in the good old days of scrubbing the decks.
Bloody itchy material took hours to iron all the correct creases in.

The subject of the various ongoing (well financed) drainage solutions didn't come up?

...possibly because the drainage is exclusively from government funds...

... as noted, all monitoring is mediated through a screen...

I am convinced Thailand requires River boats more than Submarines.

They apparently fixed the drainage problems last year....

And, the word is that they are going to install a tram system along Beach road as a solution to the congestion and traffic problems. A municipal bus service, something long denied to the city, would be too boring it seems.

^There was a bus system (of sorts) trialled some time ago, probably late 90's??. Predictably, it was a cluster-fuck that never got past the trial stage. I remember they made a dedicated bus lane on 2nd Rd between Klang and Nua so the buses could travel Nth-Sth into the oncoming one-way traffic safely. Not sure how many were killed or maimed in the few days that lasted...

Military will be military. I remember being fallen out for a parade in August in Kentucky. We were about 1000 strong when we marched smartly out onto the tarred parade ground. Where we stood....and stood...and stood (other than those who passed out). After 45 minutes, the General arrived. Thirty minutes later, he finally shut up and we were given the orders to march smartly off the parade ground.

Except there was only a very loud sucking sound, as we tried to free our highly-polished paratrooper boots that were firmly stuck fast in melted tar. Finally, after much inventive cursing, there was a squelching sound as most of us broke free, and staggered off.....

yes - they would march where they were ordered , but you can imagine they were a bit pissed off about their dress whites

I remember one where we open ordered and a few went down as we had been waiting for a while and the medics came in from the back to pick them up

a female doctor was using her fists on people and screaming to stop them trampling people when we got the order to close up

the dropped rifles with their parade mags, white slings and brass were just trashed as we moved

Yep. We had a lot of fallen that day. Good old Kentucky....freezing in the winter, hotter than hell in the summer...sucked all year.
