A62-year-old man died while taking part in a hunt in the Paris area on Monday after being charged by a deer that fatally gored him, police said.
The incident occurred around 10 am in the Compiegne national park, about 53 miles northeast of Paris.
The man, identified by local media as Regis Levasseur, was acting as a beater when he was struck. He "was charged and pierced by a deer which stabbed him with his antlers," a police spokesman said.
The hunter, who was not carrying a rifle, died of internal bleeding before emergency services could arrive. Police said this type of death was "uncommon".

Mr Levasseur was reportedly due to get married in the coming months.

When I lived in Buckinghamshire (UK), I used to go game shooting every Sunday, blasting the guts out of pheasants and partridge.

Now partridge like to fly low over the undulating fields, and one has to be very careful when/where one lets off the 12-bore, especially when there are beaters about.

As a newbie shooter, I once made the awful mistake of letting fire at a very low-flying partridge, only to hear screams of anger from a beater as my lead shot flew VERY close over his head.

You only make that mistake once - after that incident I rarely went partridge shooting, preferring to let fly at the higher-flying pheasants.

The birds loved it, great sporting fun

If this was posted on Facebook it would have over 200 replies roughly saying how pleased they are that the hunter is dead.

Can't say I mind when the quarry turns the tables, (tho I do mind facebook).

Fair play and every hunter is taking a chance in some way.

Newspaper had an article some time ago about two hapless Canucks who shot a deer or elk and decided to leave their weapons in their truck so it would be easier to pack out...

Jaysus...When they got back to their kill, they were confronted by an enraged grizzly that had claimed it as his own...Hopelessly slaughtered, they were...

Often wondered how the last guy felt, watching his buddy being torn apart, knowing he was next to die...

    Dick Cheney hunting incident.

On February 11, 2006, U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney shot Harry Whittington, a 78-year-old Texas attorney while participating in a quail hunt on a ranch in Riviera, Texas. Both Cheney and Whittington called the incident an accident.

When he learned of his mistake Cheney exclaimed, "I thought is was Quail, really, ....Dan Quail."
