Yep. That's my philosophy. Wife hates it. She's even promised me a 21 year old girl for my 90th birthday, just so I strive to carry on.

what if the problem wasn't constipation?...
After riding my motorbike on the narrow, single-lane mountain roads in Kayah State at the weekend, and meeting big fcuking lorries speeding round the corners and coming at me head-on, any constipation was rapidly cured...

    This just in:

the internet allows you to stay in contact with friends all over the world: people you choose to stay in touch with rather than specimens found on the local drain...Thailand also remains a draw for friends to visit and as a base for other SEA countries...

I had and still have a handful of Thai friends, but many acquaintances- neighborly friendships that kinda thing. I lived a rather grungy moobahn that had a wonderful atmosphere and sense of community. That's close to priceless imo. Day 2 of being back in the low mood hasn't shifted-still feeling it from filthy meat. So I'm adding the fact that Thailand has supermarkets such as Topps, heck even Big C is pretty good compared to here. The rumor mill here from the locals is that they are turning the fridges off at night to save money/stop fires. Kinda doesn't surprise me

True, but interacting face to face vs. Skype, FB and email can't really be compared imo. Humans are by nature social animals and need meaningful interaction-remove that and expect problems. I need a couple of social events a week to feel sane.

Thailands my home now, have a home, bed, wife kids, 24 hour dad, don't really work to speak off.
Will go sell some rubber tomorrow, meaning I will stand and watch the weighing, pay the tappers and go home, 1 hour of my time, after that a nap in the aircon, very hot here at the moment.

Boring life in many ways, but I've done alot of the exciting things, cold beer, food and being with the kids is enough for me now.

Dunno if you've ever had a serious injury in Thailand, but opiate painkillers like morphine are given out so little it's downright cruel. And god forbid you're closest hospital is a government one, because not all docs will administer narcotic painkilling medicine. "Must talk to head doctor" bla bla while writhing in pain, then under dose you because rules & clearly a corn-fed Farang male should be dosed the same as a 50 kilo thai man.

The last place I'd want to live out my last horrific weeks would be a Thailand hospital. At least in other countries they'll make you as comfortable as they can, medically, because you're fucking dying anyway.

    So yeah fuck that. Bigly.

unfortunate generalization: in Liberia, you'd die before you even reach the hospital...

Jim, quality time with the kids, difficult to beat that.

Oh, with good health, some brass in pocket, a nice squeeze, a never ending cold beer, Footie on the week-end, if your Team is going OK (more wins then losses).
    Well, a good start anyway

Why is it folk here are so, well, mistaken.

I was referring to the lower end of society but the twit assumes I am accusing him of being a "low life".

    How stupid is that, eh?

When i moved into my Condo 4 years ago the owner told me i could buy it for 2.5 Million baht which at the time with the high exchange rate = 82 K AUD.

I nearly bought it because it was fok all but thought better of it because the building could be chock full of Nigerian drug dealers and Poms.

Any it's not and today its worth 3 million baht which with the decline in the Aussy peso = 115 K AUD.

Who was the wanker that said Condos don't increase in Value in BKK because there are so many of them. ???

Never know, may still buy it.

    Why it's home:

    - Wife
    - Easy going people
    - The food
    - Nice house, some land and no debt of any kind
    - Money works for me
    - The climate

Same indeed. While I wouldn't call it boring now, I have done a ton of shit in my life and now look forward to doing life on my own terms.

And while I can appreciate all you posters that worry about Medical I think people are obsessed with it. I know many people thats all they can talk about, Medical this, Medical that, medical costs, what will happen to me at 70, what if I get sick. FFS. You people are making yourselves sick worrying about being sick or what if I get sick. In the US all people can think about is medical coverage so they can spend every fukn penny they saved to try and stay alive. Is it really worth it? My GMA who just passed away in her late 90's told me on her death bed that living a long life is a curse not a blessing. She said she wished she had passed about 80 when she had all her faculties about her and wasn't a burden to others.

I have VERY clear instructions in my living trust that if I am diagnosed with a terminal disease or for some reason life support is required they are not to spend whats left trying to keep me alive. I want to be let go. I have lived an Outstanding Life and if I was to go right now, Its OK. So I say live it up. You do not have any control of what may or may not happen to you. Enjoy what you have now.

Correct me if I'm remembering wrong, but didn't Terry say he was 59 earlier in the thread? Why in the world would he only live another decade? That's certainly not his life expectancy at 59, probably much closer to 2.5 decades more.

Also, there is no better time to worry about having some shit go down. 59 is just the point when you still may recover from crazy shit and still have a good stretch run in front of you, and its also more likely that the shit is gonna happen to you then when you were younger.

Land is still a better value in general return from one's initial investment.

Depending on locale and situations, continuing increases in property value can range from 10-25% in 2-5years from the original price.

Those that know, understand that the land boom in Thailand has not settled and continues on this unnecessary and amazing upward spiral.

Classic Euro-capitalist materialistic mindset, likely engendered at a young age while suckling on a nurse's maid tit.

    Further meditation required

Err, he may well totter on into his eighties but statistically it is likely the last decade is pretty much an exercise in lingering decrepitude - a condition which seems to have afflicted some here prematurely given their evident puerility.

Three score and ten, after that .........
