Thai schoolgirls using Facebook Live to prostitute online

Thai schoolgirls using Facebook Live to prostitute online

Thai media have written about an increasing problem in Thai society:
Schoolgirls using Facebook Live to show themselves naked and get money from men online for the service.

Thai Rath said there was a recent high profile case where a schoolgirl tried to get 20,000 baht from the highest bidder for a grope of her breasts.

In that case it appeared that there was to be more than just ogling via the internet and the transfer of money for a service.

Thai Rath in their feature said that an increasing number of teens were going online to make money from baring themselves for cash.

They said it was easy money and easy work. They posed the question as to what influences there were in society and on social media that were causing this phenomenon to take root.

Why were teens taking this option and not doing regular jobs?

They quoted a lawyer as saying that the problem was so widespread that many teens might not think it presented a problem.

But Nitithorn Kaewto said it was something that should not be happening and was dangerous.

“It is prostitution and illegal,” he stated, “and it may easily come to be in the realm of human trafficking”.

Penalties for human trafficking are severe in Thailand while prostitution may not even be punished.

The lawyer said that teens may see nothing wrong but it constituted a serious crime and the consequences could be dire.

Experts quoted in the feature said that going on something like Facebook Live really was a modern way for teens to make money with prostitution.

Such activity had happened in the past but not through the internet.

And it was time that the authorities caught up to this new expression of prostitution in Thailand that could be damaging to the teens concerned and make them vulnerable to the actions of unscrupulous people

Snakey, will San Mig lite suffice?

Edit: on a serious note, I've heard of similar stories of girls/students now from my former uni - that they do some short-time work at night (at a plaza) to have some tuition money... or maybe to buy a new phone... sad that they have to resort to that...

No, sad that these girls have to do this for money. There are also a lot of predators out there like pedos.

They don't "have" to resort to that... they choose to - because it's far easier than working in Star Bucks or 7/11, etc...

the only sad thing, is that it's almost an accepted part of the culture...

    I think they're uni girls.
Happens all over the world including the US and Australia, as Katie said, students wanting to buy a new phone...that's hardly working on your back to feed grandma and buy dad's medicine.

Yeah, but pb will always load all the blame on men. As to wtf uni girls hooking has to do with paedophiles...well, probably best not to ask.

Yet get her posting on the topic of the appeal of Thai women and the racist cliches are hilarious.

Yeah, I don't believe that. Anyone with that sort of money would have luscious things hanging off him.

May be sad indeed, but same same happens across the world as a natural continuation of the oldest profession.

It's sad that it's an accepted part of Thai culture that women engage in prostitution. Okay. How do you feel about the fact that these pixels are paid for by a pimp exploiting the labour of anonymous Thai vaginas? Does that seem sad to you, too?

What pixels? do you mean paid ads by sex workers support TD? (I'm guessing - as I have ad blocker)...

I won't lose sleep over it... oldest profession in the world innit.. prostitution is deeply ingrained in Thai culture. Up to them...

The pixels you are looking at are paid for (at least in part) by prostitution.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that prostitution is simultaneously something for you to use to criticize Thailand and something which you're not bothered about.

In the old days it was the old Siam Hotel coffee shop along Petchaburi Rd known for skint Ramkamhaeng Uni girls. Many older Thai men would have coffee there until late. And the odd copper. 'Pulled' in there twice, back in 2002

    Now it's online. Natrual progression.

Getting outraged ain't gonna stop it.

    Just replying to the OP...

Yup, not bothered about it in the least... at any rate, prostitution is illegal in tai-lan - so I am sure it's not happening on a large scale..

Did you help out the poor girl, Pat? Nong Pat, seemed totally genuine to me...(snigger)..

    Just "Thai culture"?! Really?

When I was studying in Japan in 2001, Jap uni girls were at it too... not poor girls neither... you get the flyers pushed through the door - If I could scan the one I kept, you'd see how blatant it is - advertises to the girls on the one size, how much they can make; and to the johns on the other side, how much it costs.
The exploitation seemed limited... all those girls at Jap uni were very well-dressed; bedrooms I visited had stacks of Vogue-mags, and it was clear their priorities were not about subsistence but luxury.

Seen it Vietnam, and Laos, and even at my uni in the UK, one of hottest (half-oriental) birds in the year above was working part-time at a lapdancing club, and what is the difference between any of that and this: https://www.seekingarrangement.com/b...r-baby-female/ ?

The main diff in Thailand is the lack of a welfare state and the lack of well-paying prospects for women, never mind the unreliability of many of the men.

I've seen the posters on the sides of buildings in Thailand offering 20k-30k / month starting wage for girls in girly bars; and women doing proper jobs after uni can only hope for half that.

If you were them, what would you do? It seems quite pragmatic for a Thai woman to use her looks to improve her lot in life, whether it's blatant or more subtle... successful women in business certainly use their sex appeal to advance their careers - they know that men don't really feel safe around funophobic feministas.

^ Yes, I realize prostitution is not confined to Thailand - was just commenting on the article...

My pad in Auckland was a stone's throw from K' Road (biggest red-light district in NZ)... they have legalized prostitution there... circa 2003...

I have utmost respect for decent/hardworking Thai women, who choose to work in factories, offices, etc... rather than taking the easy route and working off their back... that being said, it's all good, it's their life, entirely up to them innit...

Doesn't say the age of the girls if there 18 plus don't see the problem, there is many sites on the web where girls are showing and doing everything for tokens and then they cash them in.

If it organized by gangs different story.
