You have to be very careful flying low over water.
I've seen lots of people recommend to turn off the downward vision sensors when you do as over water they give false altitude readings.

Yes I have watched and read the same information TizMe. Its especially a concern hovering. chop water is OK but any flat with reflection is a risk. If you are moving its not an issue , I left my sensors on and likely will. I do not hover close enough and really have no intention too

Fun flying over things close versus always being way up in the sky. Next up will be flying under the overpass....

I crashed the other one about everytime I flew it. Great fun and made for some cool footage. Believe it or not this one should be easy-to-use. I will have to practice and learn how to use it but that's life.

If I would have stayed in my moms basement life would have been alot safer but I wouldn't be where I am today if I wasn't willing to gamble.

Life is a journey, your supposed to enjoy the ride. Good luck with that and I'll keep you posted when I do crash it. Or loose it in the pond.

I've eleven months to get good with it then we're off to the house in Laos to get some real footage of Tad Fane and the area around.

Too bad I lost all the zip line footage in Vang Vieng. You get out much Snubbs? Washington is a cool place and you can do so much there. Get on it man and post a few pics of the place.

Indeed I do. Lots of fishing, clamming, and hiking in the mountains. I will get one of these drones at some point just busy with other things at the moment.

Cool, make sure it cooks and cleans and has a automatic home mode before you invest too much in it lest it just flys away.

If you have a drone set it free. If it comes back to you it's yours, if not it never was.

I set mine free on Tuesday.
It was about 2klm away from me and flying at about 40 metres altitude, following the Malayas River in Oriental Mindoro.
It lost communication with my phone and controller.

The manual says that if it loses coms then it will activate "Return To Home".
I have my RTH altitude set to 50 metres, so in theory it is supposed to ascend to 50 metres and then fly directly back to me.
Its a nervous time staring at a screen showing no signal, knowing that it should be coming back online soon, but not really 100% sure that is what it is doing.

But, I'm glad to say it soon shows up back on the screen an all is well..

I'll post some video later.

One very important lesson for newcomers. Always make sure after takeoff that you have the RTH point successfully set and the RTH altitude set to be higher than anything that it might encounter on its journey home.

A dramatic rescue at Lennox Head on the state's Far North Coast has made world history after new drone technology was used to save two swimmers struggling in heavy surf.


As lifeguards were training to familiarise themselves with the drone equipment as part of the NSW government's $16 million shark mitigation strategy on Thursday, a call came through of two distressed swimmers.

Watch as new drone technology, piloted by a surf lifesaver, saves two swimmers struggling at Lennox Head, NSW.


Lifeguard supervisor Jai Sheridan, the 2017 NSW Lifeguard of the Year, was piloting the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at the time, immediately responded and was able to locate the swimmers within minutes of the initial alert.


"The Little Ripper UAV certainly proved itself today, it is an amazingly efficient piece of lifesaving equipment and a delight to fly," Mr Sheridan said.

"I was able to launch it, fly it to the location, and drop the pod all in about one to two minutes. On a normal day that would have taken our lifeguards a few minutes longer to reach the members of the public."


Westpac Little Ripper chief executive Eddie Bennet said the rescue shows Australia is leading the world in this technology and it "clearly illustrates the benefit of this cutting-edge technology in such a time-critical emergency situation."

"The investment by Westpac in allowing the development of the Westpac Little Ripper, is the new generation of rescue services," Mr Bennet said.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro, said Thursday's rescue proves that the government's investment is paying off.


"It's quite incredible to see that the NSW Government's investment in this technology has already resulted in two people having their lives saved," Mr Barilaro said.

"Never before has a drone, fitted with a flotation device been used to rescue swimmers like this."


Both swimmers were able to use the pod to make their way to shore, where they were met by lifeguards and only appeared to show signs of fatigue.


Ben Franklin, Parliamentary Secretary for Northern NSW, thanked the lifeguards for their incredible efforts.


"It took only 70 seconds from when the Little Ripper drone was launched to when it dropped the pod into the ocean for the rescue, a task that would usually take a lifeguard up to six minutes to complete," Mr Franklin said.


"This was an extraordinary rescue with the very best possible outcome."

This was on a rainy day at the Milwaukee Lakefront last month. Next I'll work on editing. I suck at it, but hey you gotta float before you can swim.

It's long and dull and fully expect a kick in the nuts for posting this but so what. I can't believe the way this drone responds. I've got to put more time into it and get decent so I can make some cool videos with it. I plan to take it to some cool spots so we'll see if I can get good at it. I'm not even going to say master it as that may take years.

Its good stuff and lots of fun.

Takes a lot of practice to fly smoothly and film smoothly at the same time.

I guess thats why the real professionals have 2 or sometimes 3 people involved. 1 flying, 1 filming and another to watch out for anything that might get in the way.

I've yet to get an editing program. As I recall Lost Leblank and Sv Delos went into detail as well as Gone with the the Wynns. All great with drones and editing.
They have made a career out of it. Some great material no doubt. La Vagabond is worth a watch as well if interested in on the spot film and editing. All you need is a hot......topic.
