    GoPro Yamaha R3 quick ride

Finally fab'd up a holder assy for my Go Pro Hero 5 to put on my Yamaha R3. Took it for a lil blast around the hood. I have the REMO wrist controller to turn it on and off now. Pretty slick. Its voice and manual control.

I've done a lot of filming from a bike and have made the following conclusions.

If you attach the camera to the bike, the huge amount of vibrations and shake from the bike cause the footage either to be so shaky you can't watch it, or the anti-shake software makes it so out of focus due to it's nature.

It seemed a good idea to use a helmet cam, as your neck acts as a gimble. However, that's not the case, as your helmet moves on your head causing similair problems to a bike mount.

I think the best bet is to use a chest mount.

    Just my opinion.
Step by step, inch by inch, piece by piece.

Vids on moto' s and bicycles are difficult. I have done many with a helmet mount but the problem is you look around to much and spend to much time editing out those segments.

Action videos are a challenge. I used to have one on my race car and after I let go of the transbrake the video vibrated the entire 1/4 mile. I gave up and let people film from track side. Same with Baja truck but to me thats part of the video showing whats really going on.

Today was a beautiful sunny morning. I mounted up the GoPro and grabbed the Mavic and headed out to my little coffee shop for some flying time. Last time I video'd the area it was lush green but when I arrived it was tractors and people every where harvesting the rice.

below is the moto Go Pro Vid to coffee shop. I slowed down by the Temple due to the people that go in and out. .

Below is the drone flight. I set up a small flight plan, using ND filter 8 and set for sunny day. Fields look very different.

Anyway I had my Green Tea with Milk and showed many Thais the Drone. Unlike westerners who whinge about it, they loved it and wanted to see some other flights.

Next road day will be up in those mountains passed the coffee shop. I want to take the moto and drone up there. Looks like a nice place to blast around.

    Good stuff JPPR2.

For the bike videos, make your next toy a gimbal.

For the drone videos, tilt the camera down a bit more. Try to set the horizon at approx 1/3 down the screen.

I got this for my birthday. It's kinda light for the autumn breeze. First time out today and it's still in one piece. I think it's going to take me a bit to figure it out. It must be halfway decent cause it says made in China on the bottom. I give it 20 minutes or so with me at the helm. We'll see, maybe. I'm kinda afraid of it to be honest. It has no bells or whistles like the mavic. It's a start and hell it was a gift and that makes it all the better.Wish me luck I'm gonna need it. I already lost a few helicopters to the pond across the way.

Did it come with a controller or do you fly it with an app?

My adopted boy and his girl gave it to me. I let them stay in the clubhouse for a month or two while I finished another house I had been working on.

They were planning on moving to Texas to open a shop when the bad weather hit. They had a change of heart after that. I helped them out by offering them a place to stay as they let up the lease they had. So yes the gift kinda means something to me. I'll try it again today as I'm off for the holidays.

I do need a hobbie that's not so rough on my body and mind. Although sometimes spastic, quite spastic the girl is relatively harmless. It's her mother I'm worried about.

It has a hand held control system that also has a phone app. I've only scratched the surface of what this bird can do. Lucky I got it back. usually I just hit the gas and watch them fly away.

Well I only crashed it about 20 times. Chinkies made a nimble craft. Have yet to see the SD card. It's cool but nothing like the big money drones. Or I just suck at flying it at this point. Funk I fogot about the human factors when dealing with drones. I'll blame the wind and all.

Today I had some time and fab'd up another GoPro holder for my Yam R3. This one attaches to the mirror assembly and should be far more secure and reduce the shaking versus the other location lower on the fairing. I will test it out tomorrow if weather is nice and post the vid,

Do you have a death wish?

What happens when some dozy farmer pulls out on his tractor?

What happens when a little kid runs across the road?

Sorry, but riding fast on a public road is nothing to boast about.

    Simon,
As I said. Long stretch of nothing but open road. Rice field left. Rice field right. No people. No houses. Open land. I am very aware of my surroundings.

I wanted to additionally add to Simon's "Concern of a Death Wish" when you look at a video whether through your wedcam in car, Go Pro, Phone etc with a small field of view it always appear one is going far faster then they are. On my moto rides, I am typically going 60 to 70kmh which is 35 to 45mph. Only in a few areas do I hit 80 and those are open areas. However in a large open area with long straight sections turning it up is just fun. This is a small R3. In the US I had an R1. I could get to 100mph before 3rd gear.

    Cheers

Honestly LD, It could happen anywhere. I had more near misses in my riding life in the US from idiot drivers then anything I have encountered here. I will say though, never had to dodge an Elephant in the states....

Yes...it could happen anywhere. It's just more likely to happen here, and motorbikes have no protection.

Having a trail bike would be fun, I admit. At least you, yourself would be mostly responsible for any accidents.

Remember the Uruguayan man who had ridden all around the world and got killed by some twat in Thailand ?

Or Loy Toy's mate who got seriously injured.....and the "after" photos of him recovering were posted here ?

Sorry for the negativity, JPPR, but bikes ? Screw em, I say. Apart from trail bikes, used on trails. And as long as one doesn't encounter Somchai coming around a bend on the wrong side of the road.

No worries LD. I completely understand your point of view. I have ridden motorcycles since about 10. Part of my life now. I enjoy them and always have. Interestingly I do not feel anymore worried about being here then other countries I have ridden in. You just have to be cognizant of your surroundings all the time.

    Cheers

Today while I had a line in the water I brought my Mavic and did a fly by of the spill way area. Flying over water and you have a miscue its party over. Mavics do not do well when you splash one. I was about 4 meters off the 2nd spill way then pulled up over the main one. I will mess around more tomorrow and get one real close if I am not busy tiling.....
