Can't expect an antipodean to understand Jack cheese. It's tangy and it has better melting qualities than the cheddar you are talking about. It's like comparing apples and oranges or comparing brie to mozzarella. Totally different kinds of cheese.

The "Mainland" brand of cheese available here do reasonable variations of cheddar cheese; "Tasty", "Vintage", "Epicure", etc. In addition to Gouda and Edam varieties.
Not bad, and slightly less processed than other rather over-processed brands of cheese mentioned earlier that appear to be about 2 molecules away from being a fucking drainpipe, rather than a dairy food product.

I was just going to post that product up.

I bought a block of the 'epicure' today. Well worth the extra few baht. Flavoursome and satisfying, a street ahead of that Californian dross.

How much, what size (weight) and where?

Just we bring cheese into Thailand and it might be easier just to buy it here on a cost comparative basis.

    Thanks

I buy the fresh 2kg grated Cheddar and Mozzarella cheese from Macro and stick 'em in the freezer. If one needs a little for toast or a Pizza it easy enough to break off a handful at a time. I never buy large blocks of cheese. Always grated.

On the subject of cheese, the Waitrose extra-mature cheddar (no. 6) isn't too bad (Central Chidlom supermarket), but the best, imo, is the Cambozola available at the Paragon: delicious...

    200g is about 180 baht.
This range is as good as I've eaten for Cheddar. Maybe dill gets his stuff delivered straight from an independent in Somerset.

The company is owned by Unilever, I suggest the same recipe is used by both but you may know better.

    Pricewise- Thai 0.3bht/g (220g for 65bht), UK 0.75 bht/g (1.5GBP for 200g)

So yes 60% cheaper in Thailand

One would not suspect that a Thai Best Foods would be No.1 in ameristan. I also presume that the ameristani company would take a dim view of the same packaging/logo usage. The Thai best foods mayonnaise is made by Unilever, allegedly, well it's printed on the jar.!

Best Foods bought Hellmans in 1932. Now both owned by Unilever, as is the Thai sold product.

    Such a small world.

You clearly don't know your cheese. You'd never use an aged cheddar for quesadillas, enchiladas or nachos. A soft cheese like Monterray Jack is perfect. Comparing a cheddar to a jack is ridiculous.

You may want to do that calculation again 7.5pence per g in not equal to 7.5bht.

You can't taste one, taste the other and distinguish which one is preferable?

You wouldn't taste, say, a white wine and then a red wine and think the red vastly superior?

You'd say 'Well, the white I'd drink with fish, while the draino would be good with red meat'?

You clearly have a rather odd outlook on this.

    They are a bit pricey.

The 'Casino' brand Camemberts in 'Big C' are pretty good. I prefer 'President' Brie, though.

Of course it's not possible to say whether or not they're better than 'laughing cow'.

The Epicure is 200g but the others come in at 250g. Just finishing off a block of epicure at home at the moment. Going to get a vintage later if they have it in stock @ Best Supermarket, Naklua.

Had I not relocated here, I doubt I would know what downloading was, or how to live stream sports events for free.

    Thanks to all concerned.
