You'll only find sevens located in the more populated/marketable Thesabans - or the odd one situated amongst the petrol station giant along the motorway in the fucking middle-of-nowhere.

....and still, far and few between - which can only be a good thing for real civilisation.
"Real civilisation" where theres no 7/11's ?
Just the old mom & pop shops , where they go to the wholesalers once a week , and thus the bread is stale and they constantly run out of products . You do not buy what you want, you buy what they have .
The mom & pop shops that close at 8PM , food stored at room temperature until its sold, regardless of its edibility ?

Yeah, Mae Sai is where I bought the tastiest ones I've eaten.

No great surprise that strawberries are best in Thailand's relatively cooler climes.

Mangoes are good here in CM at the moment. Mangosteens a bit bland. I bought 3 pineapples for 20 baht this morning at the market and felt pleased...then kind of guilty.

That's hard economics...getting less than 7 baht for a pineapple.

Gaeng Sapparot for lunch tomorrow, anyway.

    My wife not being conflicted.

Yeah, the baby pineapples are good. Cheap too. Thailand's good for fresh fruit.

Man you gotta be way out nowhere if there isn't a 7-11 within easy reach.

    Fuuuuuuuuuuk that noise
Closest 7/11 to me is 15km at the Amphur. Also have a Lotus mini shop which I prefer. Living in the sticks means stocking up in the big city for stuff ya just can't do without. Running out of coffee is about the only thing would cause me grief. Other than that plenty of stuff in easy reach of my back door. Chickens, eggs, fruits, frogs, greens, herbs, chilis, yummy bugs, rice in the barn, and fish in the pond. Even have a tree whose bark makes a nice tea. Has a beneficial side effect. Dictus erectus.

How have we got this far in the thread without the institution that is the 7-11 toasted ham and cheese sandwich being mentioned?

Are you sure it's 2 kg? That's a huge loaf. I think a standard loaf is 1 lb (measured on the dough). 2kg would be a nearly 5 lb loaf!

Tops have Waitrose essentials brand of Hoops (Cheerios) and Malted Wheats (Shreddies) for any cereal aficionados. They also carry Quaker brand instant oats. Nice with Honey and Currants, both available in Tesco Lotus. Great choice of Honey available in Lotus.

Had my first ever one of those last week. Not bad. Good for a munchies emergency.
The sausage and cheese not so good. I didn't have my glasses with me and thought (highly optimistic I realise) from the picture that it was a baked beans toasted sandwich.

Yep, 2kg it is, I've been getting 1 (4 x 1/4) weekly since 2009/10, 3 in the freezer; don't take a bite when they're fresh and still warm in the morning, unless you don't mind pigging out.

And don't let them slice it, much better to take it home and DIY because their slicer's crap. Years before the renovation I suggested to the manageress that it's a shame to produce such good breads only to destroy them on slicing; she was polite but insisted it works just fine, so I had a quarter sliced in front of her, looked ok till she pushed her luck to peel off a slice at which point it disintegrated. The chopper's still there.

Just wondering (because I have an interest in reducing waste) why you wouldn't just buy coconuts, chopped to the point of just short of open so you still have the convenience and I daresay more freshness?

The best coffee I have found so far is Red Cliff Coffee:

Red Cliff Coffee from Thailand | Your Coffee Has a Story

From the About page: "RedCliff Coffee is a two-person operation based in Northern Thailand. After managing a Kona coffee farm in Hawaii...we moved to Chiang Rai with the goal of providing customer wtih the freshest, most delicious coffee in Thailand."

Can order and pay online, ships by EMS to anywhere in Thailand, and is quite reasonably priced - a 250g bag (either beans or ground) is THB 251 for me here in Bangkok. Takes about a week from order to delivery.

Like Norts, I am off the beaten track, about 11km from a decent road and 20km from a town that has a 7/11. A new lotus is closer (17km) but we only use if we have run out of something unexpectedly.

We make a trip to Robinsons for special occasions and I like Waitrose kippers as a breakfast treat when I can get hold of them.

There was a time when I could get Colman's mustard powder from Tesco in Udon but I haven't seen it for many years. Anyone knowing where to find and I'll be grateful.

I love heinz beanz and pork sausages. +1 to Thailand where I can find them and -1000000000000 to Germany for not providing them. That goes for Cambell's soups (great for casseroles) and pork&beans (back up breakfast) too.

My favourite coffee is Royal Project. 300 baht for 500 grams. They also do dirt cheap fruit and veg. Always busy with Thais, but I've never seen another farang at the branch I go to.
