    he's full of shit.

Oh sorry, I mean 'a masterful baiter of forum misfits. In his latest guise he brilliantly takes aim at yet more people who can do something he can't and are almost certainly happier than he is.'

he is a troll, making inflammatory comments and provocations is his forte, and he takes great delight in the responses to his walter mitty like posts by those who for some strange reason think he is for real, he has been doing it here with some success for years.

forums such as this, with little backbone (and mostly populated by thailands expat flotsam, jetsam, misfits, rejects and other assorted characters who find difficulty existing within the boundaries that a regulated existence imposes on them) would be dead without such eccentric rabble rousers.

Would agree 100% Todz. I know a shitload of Foreigners who can read/write/speak Thai but there's only ONE of them who makes Thai's go wide-eyed over his language skills the first time they hear him talk. He's Dutch, but was born here (Expat parents) and spent the first 16 years of his life in Thailand.

Give Somchai Smeggums a phone call for a chat about Thai rock bandz Todd. It's always nice to chat to fellow minded people - fully fluent and interested in the same music scene.

Well now there is a second. For smeg has said that it is so.

And all achieved in Bayswater, Japan, Taiwan and Brazil. Remarkable.

I'm calling B/S on your self-assessment of your thai language skills

If you, a foreigner, learned thai as an adult, after 2 or 3 sentences EVERY thai you talk to knows you're not a born, bred, rice-fed native speaker. Whether they say it to you or not. These people <- that would be the thais, are excellent at accent identification.

I've found as a general rule foreign thai speakers overestimate their actual thai ability by about 1000%. I'd bet you're far more "effluent" than fluent <- what ever the f*ck that term means.

Fluent is an imaginary place in your mind that gets in the way with you learning thai. I've met hundreds and hundreds of good competent proficient foreign speakers 'o thai, yet I've never met one I felt was fluent in the language.

That you take the piss outta them when they're tryin' to interact with you in engrish is un-redeeming.

I wish I knew how to block you in real life..
When you've stopped crying about real life, watch an Adam Bradshaw video. He's been learning it for less time than I have. Some people are gifted at languages. He is. I am. Get over yourself if you're not. Your generalisations are hilarious.

Oh, and I know Thais that have lived in England for several years who are fluent and have local accents. They're unusual though.

You could practice your Thai typing skills by typing that in Thai and wowing everybody in the process.

Not as 'unusual' as they'd be if they'd learned it in Bangkok from watching East Enders, which is the equivalent of what you are claiming to have done.

No, that is a long leap from 'unusual'...straight into 'full of shit'.

Why prove anything to miserable twats on a forum? They'll only start crying about my Mrs having written it.

Hey expert Todd, what percentage would you assess Yaya's fluency as being?

There are rare adults who can learn to impersonate the voice of almost any celebrity. Becoming fluent in Thai requires something similar, observing (in my case thousands of hours of lakorn) and mimicking.

I know an American that's lived here for 30 years and met him to play pool last week. His vocab is good but he speaks Thai with an almost monotone US accent. He thinks he's good though, so I understand your rant Todd.

If not for the creepy stalkers I'd upload a video of me being invited on stage by Pup, the lead singer of Potato, who is a friend of my Mrs, to sing a few lines (and receive an amazing response from the fans) at a small gig in Ubon last year.

Just a quick question, if I may.

Do you actually believe that happened?

I'm just asking, because you might not be aware, their facebook page uploads a separate photo album for every concert they play, and they haven't played in Ubon since 2015 at a Central Festival.

Of course you may still believe that it happened, hence my question.

^ Private gig. Invite only. Smeg's married to a minor member of the Thai royal family so obviously that, and his work as a major contributor to the The Royal Institute Dictionary, means that he's the guy that everyone wants at these events. Honestly, if you look at HiSo Party, it's hard to find events that he's not at.

Those all have their own photo albums too.

Some nice stage pics of their concerts uploaded.

    https://www.facebook.com/pg/potatoba...os/?tab=albums

The last time they were in Ubon was April 2015.

    Good song by the way.

อุบลราชธานี is Ubon Ratchathani, for those that are illiterate.

    Oh right.

    What bar was it?

The last bar they played in Ubon was U Bar (quite a good place, there are other U-Bars in cities around Isan) in 2014.

Because they document all their concerts (small and large) online within a social media database.
