Yeah, I vaguely remember a taxi-ride out to some huge entertainment place where we drank beer and watched the various acts...Some real honeys up there, at times, all decked out in silk and money...

Was a lot of fun...Until you had to take a piss...Or leave one, which makes more sense...

Those fookers had you trapped at the urinal, one on either side massaging and toweling while another stayed behind...Perhaps for penetration, if you had a Butterfly in your lapel...

'Kin hell, it was a bit "unsettling"...

Next time I dove straight into a stall to avoid the hands-on "tit for baht" routine...

But they know you have to "come up for air" sooner or later...Then you're "wet toweled" and "dry toweled" until you escape...

^^is that thing common among Thais? Toweling & massaging in toilets? I don't hear of that happening here in PI.

Though I hear of BJs on offer in toilets of some dodgy malls. A guy-friend of mine told me the story of how he was able to escape.. he felt he was the next "target"...

Sure...At "class" joints all over the world...Heh...Just that the "towel bearers" in Thailand really crowd you...

I mean, a neck massage feels good, granted...But not while I'm trying to piss...

Heh...I'd feel more comfortable with the cleaning ladies who wander into the toilets at malls, for example...

^^heh... if my mama knew it, she would wash my mouth (or mind) with soap! I asked her what the cuss words are in her language. Her reply - "you don't need to know".

At the risk of giving a generic vanilla answer, to my mind, they are no worse, or better, than their Western counterparts... some good, some bad, most in between IMHO.

Although I didn't have any really close Thai male friends, the few that I socialized with seemed alright.

Hard to form really close friendships with them - being a Westerner, (cultural differences?) always felt a barrier there... one of my best mates in toyland was a negro, always paid his share when we went clubbing, pubs, etc... *unlike most of my white mates 55

Had a great eclectic bunch of misfit friends there, miss that... I'm sure will find some decent friends in Japan.

I don't know anyone who has made a true Thai male friend from their time in Thailand. Plenty of people I'd have a drink with in my case, but none who I'd consider true friends.

^ That's the key difference. I know lots I can have a laugh with, but none that I'd trust with my money or personal info.

The 'friendliest' Thai male I know (11 year) is a policeman but I wouldn't rely on him to help out if my arse was against the wall.

    Yeah, why is that?

Almost a universal truth.. I suppose it depends how you define 'a friend'... but I mean someone that would jump out of bed at 3 am in the morning, to help you in an emergency... lame example I know...

The times I've heard/read that Farang can't get close or feel included in the Thai social group.. of course, there are exceptions to every rule.. but very rare..

I like the friendships forged in a foreign land... some of the dudes I hung out with, I probably wouldn't give the time of day in NZ (and vice-versa) but we became like blood brothers.

*That time of the day remark, was just to highlight my point... I'm not a snob when it comes to picking friends... beggars can't be choosers ey? 55

^ But is that across Thai society or particularly with Thai men?

Lots of female groups I've known have invited me for nights out with them, but not the groups of Thai men I've known.

^ I don't mean going out on the piss... most Thai men/women are up for a free night out, especially when they are in the spotlight of a Farang..

Some may even pitch in for the check-bin (not often though) more often than not, you will sponsor their night out...

Had plenty of drinking buddies (Thai)...

I mean solid friendships.. I always felt they were just hanging around for some advantage.. gotta be something in it for them.. free whiskey/meal, etc..

    Good question.

Thai women form relationships with western men, and even then many men will say they're never truly accepted as part of Thai society, so it's gonna be nigh on impossible to build true friendships with blokes.

I always found nights out with men in the group had an air of suspicion about them. Uneasy, almost.
